PC Edition: Gears of War

If the game wont load,,,,,, either set the windows date back to 2008 or download the patch that came out this yr

Anyone got vsync to enable with the game, cos I cant enable it even tho its turned on in the game? Cos Im getting bad tearing
On Vista you can force it in D3D Overrider which comes with Rivatuner. The Reason it tears is because the game has an advanced FPS detector so if you PC is not capable of running it @ 62FPS it disables vsync overriding any OS or driver settings. Forcing it in D3d overrider solves this.

For anyone thinking about editing the game .ini files I would not advise it as if you do so or use the console for cheats the game blocks all LIVE achievements and the only solution is to remove & reinstall from scratch if you want to earn these on your gamertag.

Finally there is no way to backup game saves & if you change your NIC you also lose all progress and have to start from scratch. This is because the game has advanced anti-cheat systems and according to Epic doing any of that loses all save progress!!!

Apart from that its much better than the 360 version, contains extra content & still has a healthy online population especially as GOW2 is terrible GOW fanboys went back to GOW1

I had a few issues, one in that it wouldn't save my brightness setting and another in that eventually the game wouldn't launch without changing your date/time settings Windows haha.

I believe they've patched that now though.

This game was so, so much better on PC. I've played it a few times through with the same mate of mine and had a right laugh (especially at inadvertently getting the berserker to run off the end of the train and kill itself, haha - I couldn't breathe when that happened)

I'd definitely recommend getting it if you have a mate that would play it with you. For solo play, I wouldn't recmomend you to get it.

Hey,

I don't suppose this game support cross-platform play with 360 users? Are there any games apart from Shadowrun which do support it?!

Cheers,

Su

Lost Planet Extreme Colonies Edition (best GFWL MP title still BTW) & Universe At War are the only other 2 PC titles which support cross platform play.

It's fine here for me play it with a mate over GFWL with coop never had a problem.
Just a shame it doesn't have a decent built-in chat function.

Quite nice in co-op with snowdog up there.

Best to use a good machine tho as without a good one it can be really crap due to slow fps.

Another thing about the PC version is that it is definitely the longest install from 1 DVD known to man. Downright ridiculous. My old machine took 45 mins to install it!

Capcom's Lost Planet: Extreme Condition/Colonies Edition is another that is cross-compatible.

Cool cheers!

Been reading up and apparently as a PC user, you still need a Gold Live subscription though?! That's totally gash :(

Not really true imo I enjoyed the game on release on my 6800GS @ 20-25 fps too :p. It's a slow console game no need for high fps....

I mean for cross-platform play, apparently you need a Gold sub :(

[edit] Back OT, I plan on getting GoW PC soon, so if anyone is still playing then add me on GFWL! :D

This was ages ago around the time Halo 2 PC version came out.

Games For Windows Live is completely free now for PC gamers.

The Gold Subscription is only for the Xbox player. PC players are free.

Not really true, you do remember the 2nd level where it all got really choppy. I remember you had the same issue as i. Thats when we stopped till we had better comps then continued as it removed all choppyness from that point.
