pc equivalent of forza?

Interested to see people's replies to this, as I wonder the same!
Project C.A.R.S seems to pop up now and again, although I can't quite figure out what the deal with it is.

I have an xbox for forza, but the loading times really grind my gears!

its a shame tbh because i love forza mainly due to the fact you can get normal cars on it and do what you want with them, if t10 put forza onto the pc it would be epic.

the problem i have with most racing games on pc are that they cater to simulation and have track only cars. there is no variety as its all track which is fine but forza offers such variety that i cant get on pc so far

pCars, rfactor, shift 2 is pretty good, GRID also.

no need for speed franchise games for me, they have terrible physics. every one ive played has been horrible.

grid is a good game but ive already played that and it isnt in the same league as forza in terms of realism customization and choice of car.

not heard of pcars or rfactor so ill have a look at them.

i had a look at them and they are just racing sims again. no road cars to play with on track and tune.

i may ask t10 if they will ever port forza to the pc

Actually Shift 2 has a few user mods that make the handling much better then it was. Grid is an arcade driving game isn't it? I have it on Steam but never really played it.

I will vouch for shift 2 for the same structure as forza, albeit on a smaller scale with about 100 cars. but pC.A.R.S for the better forza like physics and awesome graphics. Forza is still the best car collecting racing sim, for now.

I don't think Need for Speed has terrible physics. I've not played Forza games and they might be better, but once you set up cars in Shift 2, (and there's tons of parameters to tune and customise a car with), the cars handle well. There's loads and loads of cars in Shift 2, some handle badly, but there are many that handle well. It has a mix of street circuits and tracks. I spent countless hours on this game during our OcUK time trials last year. You just have to practise a lot to get the handling of even the worst cars.

Here's some vids of mine doing time trials on street circuits and tracks in Shift 2. I'm pushing the physics of the cars quite hard on these circuits. Also, as said above, we used some mods which improved the handling.

There's nothing that comes close to the Flagship racing arcade sims on the PC sadly. Grid and Shift are the closest, but neither match either Forza or GTx.

There are a couple of GREAT full on racing sims, but they are in full on purist neckbeard territory.

It's kinda hard to tell from a video TBH, but I didn't see a single steering correction in the first 2 vids. It didn't feel like you get the nervous on the limit feeling I'd be looking for from a good racing game / sim (last racing game I played was GT4 on PS2, or maybe one of the Colin McRae games from around that time).

I've been casually looking for something similar to the OP for a while now.

I know what you mean about it being hard to tell from a vid. I'd ironed out as much of any necessary steering corrections as possible since it's essential to be able to shave off tenths in time trial. But it took dozens and dozens of laps of crashing and steering corrections before I was able to get it smooth enough to make those vids. As far as being on the limit, check out 0:48 and again at 1:07 of the Enna Pergusa vid. It's right on the edge trying to weave that porsche between those walls, while being almost flat out. I crashed into the barriers many times before 'sort of' perfecting it! :p

With the handling mod it's fine. You just have to spend some time learning how to tune, unless you want a game with cars that run on rails straight out of the box.

I have never played Forza but i would said the closest thing you can get to it on the PC would be SHIFT 2, the Physics are not that great even when you use a mod to improve the handling but the game is not all about physics but more about having fun racing the AI or racing other people like i did in a time trial i did for the game.

If you want a proper racing sim then you want to look at Live For Speed, Assetto Corsa or iRacing (very expensive), pCars is not a proper sim but it has the potential to be one if it gets the right physics which will be in around 2/3 months times.

Yeah fair enough. I think I know what you mean, if you get the entry into the corner and the application of the throttle perfect then there shouldn't be any (or at least very minimal) correction, but that's what's so hard to tell from a vid!
