Problem seems to be getting worse.

Had this problem once two weeks ago, and then twice last week. Now about 4 times so far this week.

Sometimes when i power on the machine, it wont post and just keeps restarting.

Once it just hung and failed to boot.

Never get anything on the screen.

It usually restarts after about 3/4 seconds. Sometimes it will get to windows after restarting 3 or 4 times. But once it refused to boot.

So far I have

Removed overclock.
Reset CMOS.
Checked connections inside.

I haven't got a pc speaker installed, would be an advantage to get one installed. The next time it happens, hopefully I would get some bios beeps.

So guys, what to check now?

Thanks

BTR

:(

Im instantly thinking PSU? what are the pc specs now? you have bought lots of stuff recently havent you?

ive had issues like this before were the pc restarts and fails to boot etc and it was the power pack....swapped it out and its been good as gold, did you have a 6990 on that 600w ocz psu?, I had a ocz psu in my kids machine and it lasted a month so i changed it to an enermax I got of members market, since then perfect

Thats the first thing to do actually.

You were wanting a new PSU anyways, so buy one and see if the problem is fixed.

If the problem still persists then you know its something else, but you have the upgraded PSU you wanted anyways:D

I would lend you one of my motherboards but dont fancy posting them or wanting them killed:p

ROFL - Bad idea

I am thinking about taking it to a local pc shop.

I am just too busy,

Got a mountain of parts sitting in my room for this build as well lol!

I am tempted to think the psu or mobo. But the thing is, with this sort of ****ing problem it could be anything FFS!

EDIT - Hmmmmmm

is Internal PLL overvoltage Enabled?

Get the latest BIOS, and if it is enabled, disable it, i was having this problem on my sabertooth and had this enabled when i didnt need to. I disabled it and it solved my problem of the cold boot on off on off on thing.

Have you given memtest a good run?

If not i would leave it on overnight to help rule out a memory problem (i've just returned some memory for a very similar problem before the stick completely died.)

I havent really done any testing other that what i did in OP.

Will give memtest a bash then as well.

Thinking of getting a new psu anyway, i need something easier to sleeve

I would stick your head in the case and double check all the MB connections, memory, sata leads etc - reseat them ideally.

Also, make sure the motherboard is fitted securely and that there isn't any movement.

You could also consider flashing the BIOS.

If you still don't have any luck then you may want to consider a bare bones seup and see if the problem still occurs - if not add components until it buckles.

Good thinking batman.

Will re seat everything and have a nose.

But it only seems to be from cold boot.

So will have to keep switching on and off over the next week or so.

Thanks guys. Helpful as ever
