After around two years of trying to get my PC to work, i would like to fix it once and for all and would like some advice before wasting my money all over again if that's possible.

The first problem i encountered was some faulty ram, which caused endless problems with games. Easily enough fixed.

Next i got an upgrade from an amd athlon x4 to the AMD phenom x6 1100t, during lots of games i think i heard what was coil whine and the PC still did not seem to work right, i thought maybe the sound was connected so it took it to a professional PC shop, they tested it with prime95 and the whole thing shutdown and would not start, they thought it was a problem with an individual part so they replaced each one in turn, no luck. They ordered a new motherboard, still nothing. They ordered one more and this one for some reason worked. They wanted it out of their hands as soon as they could. So now i have it back and it performs terribly. On most games it stutters horribly skyrim is unplayable, sleeping dogs crashes after 5 minutes and the PC should be able to play all of these games so i don't whats wrong. I have now replaced almost every part in the PC apart from the GPU so thats where im looking now. I'm looking at the Sapphire 11197-12-40G HD7970 3GB Vapor-X Graphics Card. I figured perhaps AMD prodcts may work better tograther.

If i get this fixed i would like to be able to run crysis 3 on the highest settings, so i was wondering if its possible to overclock the current cpu i have and the new graphics card i get. Thank you for any help it is greatly appreciated.

Sounds very much like overheating/lack of power/memory fault/hdd bad sectors.

Have you left it running memtest86 overnight?

What are the temps like idle/gaming?

As Doomed mentions, try replacing the PSU - you might find the one you are using can't supply enough on 1 rail or isn't stable with multi-phase and high draw (when gaming etc).

Have you run prime since or any other stress tests?

SMART tests/reports on HDD?

The temps seem fine whilst idle, i usually hear the fans getting louder when gaming. I'd rather not run any tests as i don't want it to shut down and not start again :S yes i replaced a 500w power supply with 700 or 750w one. I can't really test it on gaming it works fine as a normal pc but the moment i put a game on the stutter ruins it

What make and model psu though? Just because it says 700w on the sticker does'nt mean it can actually deliver that wattage on the 12v rail where it is needed most. A cheap psu will only deliver a fraction of it's wattage and not very well at that. What motherboard do you have as well?

Quality psu then unless it's developed a fault.

It could be a problem with the mobo. If you download Cpu-z it will tell you what the mobo is under the motherboard tab.

Thanks, i do not think that is because it made no difference when i changed it, i originally had a 500w psu. The motherboard is Asrock 960GM-GS3 FX. But i do not think that is it because it made no difference changing the motherboard the problem's were exactly the same?

Have you got bios version P1.10 or later because that's what you need for that cpu. Also, that board only has a 4 pin cpu power socket so maybe the cpu can't actually get enough power. Just a guess though.

Then it could be that the 6 core cpu can't get enough power through the 4 pin connector. Like i said, it's just a guess but i have heard of this before.

If this is not it, would you recommend a new gpu like the one i listed and do you have any idea if they could both be overclocked? sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help

GPU wise sell the 560ti and go for one of this weeks specials. There are some cracking deals on 7950 and 7970 cards in there.

I would be very tempted to try a decent mobo first though. One with a 8 pin cpu power socket. Ideally we need some help from guys with AMD rigs in this thread.

What size board can your case take? ATX, M-ATX? There is no guarantee that this will fix it although a better motherboard will let you get a decent overclock out of that cpu. That's why i said we could do with some AMD users in here.

What i'll probably do is, get the new gpu and see if that fixes my problem, if not take into a pc shop and ask them what motherboard would be best for overclocking the components i have, sound good? my case is not a full tower but i think it is called mid tower
