For CSS public it's all about finding the right servers. The SD Gaming and ECK ones are Uk and have good communities. There is also quite a good mixes system for 5on5 play if you dont have any mates to play with.

What about UT2004? Find a good server there and it's still good fun, theres one or two Assault servers about (Nachos and Beer server highly recomended) and multiple Onslaught ones.

Nachos and Beer has usually got regular players (I mean same people who play on it regularly) and is quite often got a good amount of players after 5:00 (which also shows that most must be working adults, meaning mature, which they are). Plenty of custom maps made of high quality craftmanship.
