Hi everyone

I am trying to reach out to some 'dad gamers' out there. I want to find some good PC games to play with my 5year old.
As a gamer myself I would like to share my hobby with my kid. Now before everyone lashes out at me about screen time ADHD bla bla. As a parent I will manage my kid as how i see correct so lets not get feisty (referring to a thread i spotted about games for 3 year olds).

So, my kid isnt actually able to play games yet but he loves watching them... I recently took him through star wars fallen order and he loved watching it. I tried that avengers game but it was too slow paced for him and he lost interest...
Of course there is no chance I am going to let him watch super gory stuff like Doom and I dont want to play Multiplayer games while he is around as they are unpredictable in terms of swearing or me swearing at people :p

So ya, any suggestions please shoot! Side note, to get him used to that top down approach, not sure of the technical terms but the game style of star craft and dota is a bit much... he is getting used to it when he sees me play anno 1800 though but the moving of screens and size of world is a bit too much.

If there is already a post on this topic let me know, i did try search game for 5 year olds and games for kids.

not my main department,
maybe something like rocket league
stardew valley ?
cue club 2 is a chill snooker pool game on steam, that you may both enjoy as a 2 player
may get other platformer type games like spyro the dragon, ori and the blind forest games, but they can be incredibly difficult

I have rocket league but have never tried it with him, thats a good shout!
I have both Ori's but not tried it with him.... think stardew valley he will get bored of, he likes a good ol bad guy!

Yeah Lego Games and Minecraft. Mine started when they were 3. They didnt actually like Lego Games and were into Minecraft much later.

They went for car racing games first

Flatout
Flatout 2
Flatout 3
Flatout Ultimate Carnage
Burnout Paradise (Racing Game)
Wreckfest (so they can smash up cars)

plus a lot of the under £5 games or free from Steam eg

RC Racers

I could look in their Steam libraries for more games as they will be in there but they are too busy playing Fortnite at the moment.

ok logged into their account

Crash and Burn 2
Crash Drive 2
Crash Time 2
Dirt Showdown (brilliant)
F1 Race Stars
Jet Racing Extreme
Mini Motor Racing
Mini Ninjas
Riptide RG2
Super Toy Cars

For control use Microsoft Family, its free and you cant beat it for controlling their access.

For games either look at Humble Bundle where you get 5-10 games or that Indie Game site cant remember the name begins with F or something where they sell all those bundles you can get like 10-20 steam games for like £3-£5 which when you go through them are good for youngsters.

When my daughter was three I got her Paw Patrol On a Roll which was perfect because it was a 2d left to right platformer - the jumps were too tricky for her at the time but that just meant she couldn't collect everything, it didn't stop her finishing the levels. It is really simple though, so probably won't hold interst for long at 5. Now she's five, Paw Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay is a 3d explorer platformer and she mostly handles that okay. My boy who's three saw the Gigantosaurus game at same time (loves dinosaurs) - it's a 3d explorer / platformer too and a bit difficult for him, but the older one enjoys playing it. We did try them on the lego games but they lost interest - the TV tie ups with programmes they know definitely worked better to hold their interest, but your little ones might prefer other things.

Best of luck.

I’ve just bought this for my five year old and he loves it, probably a bit easy for him now but he loves those golden paws!!

To me I saw it as essential not really lucky. Being from an IT background for nearly 30 years and also seeing IT within schools I wanted my kids to get a head start on being able to use a computer and they both started at 3yrs, by the time they were 5 they could both use a keyboard and mouse fine. My youngest is now 8 and h
e is probably the best in his class with computer usage. There are still a lot of kids in his class who cant even use a mouse or keyboard and a lot of it is to do with their parents buying them a console.

Something like It Takes Two or Little Big Planet should be a good shout. Not sure if they're still making them but the Sonic games used to be great for kids. Sonic Heroes is worth getting (it's old but still fun) as it encourges co-op.

Yeh paw patrol on a roll is great , the new 3d one is a confusing mess for even me.

Stardew is OK but you need to be there and also have a decent farm so they can just mess about with the horse etc.

Honestly though.....Roblox. probably nothing better for the young ones at the moment.

You can buy the Disney Infinity games now for PC on Steam which includes all the playsets and characters that would have cost you a small fortune back when they were released on console. They're excellent games for kids and the Star Wars game in Infinity 3.0 is pretty awesome even for big kids!

I'd recommend Fall Guys @ Steam, check that one out.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses! I noobed up and didn’t watch my own thread so only got an alert when I was quoted!

definitely think I have enough now to get him going.

like many, he plays minecraft but watches ppl play it on ytk and he keeps asking me to download mods like mario smash world or something similar. Where/how do you do this? Even as a gamer my whole life I’ve never clicked or understood a game like minecraft. Just seems perpetual

I got the Lego Star Wars games for my son when he was 5 and he still plays them at 8. Also try Lego Invincibles and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean.

When he gets a bit older and wants to try his first gun game, you can't go wrong with the Halo remastered. Only ever shoot at aliens.
