According to the PCGA so its accurate. That's an incredible number for PC gaming more than all other platforms COMBINED!!!! No wonder more & more console exclusive games are suddenly finding their way to PC even if they are late :( publishers are crazy to not make their big budget games come to PC nowadays (Dark Souls I am talking about you!! but there are plenty of others PC gamers would buy if they are ported to a high standard.)

but it's spread out more.

For most big title games they will make more money on consoles than pc, but for every console game there are 50+ Pc games, so yes more total sold on the pc but each individual game getting less sales.

The recent boom in free-to-play games has a lot to do with it. Zynga managed to almost double their revenues in 2011 to a staggering $1.1 billion. That’s a lot of turnip seeds sold (or whatever).
Tencent’s launch of Riot Game’s League of Legends in China was also a massive success, raking in over 11 million active players. The figures haven’t been counted up yet, but it’s expected that Riot are making more money from PC games than anyone else, including Activision Blizzard.

It's all a load of shovelware though, high end PC gaming sells nothing.

It isn't really just PC gaming though, it also includes rubbish stuff like facebook games (Zynga with 1.1billion alone) :p.

WoW would be about 2billion (I'm assuming it still has ~11million subs @ 15bucks a month). According to that Riot Games (makers of League of Legends) are making more than Activision Blizzard .

And Steam do not release sales figures outside of the company as it is "sensitive" information so the figures are flawed from the start.

The PCGA is just an extra marketing vehicle for the industry.

Where are they when gamers are getting ****** by one of their "members"... oh, wait.

That figure feels somehow weird to me when only a few people at work play consoles and my occasional PC gaming is seen as extreme form of geekiness(they dont even know about World of Warcraft).

+1 we've quite a few console gamers here but only 3 PC gamers out of 75 people

I personally don't "feel" it in this country. I'm guessing the Americas and Asia is where it's at for PC sales.

I can understand where you are coming from, but Germany and other markets in the world sell a lot of PC titles.. The Germans love their PC's and PC gaming. heck they hung on to the Amiga to the very bitter end (not that PC gaming is ending BTW lol)

Russia are into PC gaming, the States PC game a lot, its only in the UK does it seem we aren't giving the PC much love...

Or so it seems... What I did notice is that EA finally updated Fifa for the PC, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see NHL updated next after so many years absence on the PC...

I ageee, its totally crazy not to release top titles for the PC, its a vast market and Alan Wake proved PC gamers will buy a good title...!! although a lot of this as said is facebook gaming.. Big woohoo!!

Actually valid point. Was just having a quick snoop around the office as I pretty much know the gaming habits of the guys I work with..

20 in total.

8 have and do game on xbox360
2 including me have a PS3 and do use it for gaming
1 has a PS3 but only uses it as a media tank
4 game on PC including me
1 has Wii but mostly for his son… lol

Of these numbers, only two are PC exclusive players. One plays Eve 24/7 if he could, the other plays a lot of FPS.

1 has a 360 as well as PC gaming and myself I’m a PC gamer with a PS3.

The rest wouldn’t never touch PC gaming and I know one sold his gaming rig and got a 360 instead.

So, that’s nearly 50% of the office playing their games on xbox 360, and I know two use Kinect.

PC gamers, that only game on the PC is very low, one only plays one game leaving 3 that do buy games for PC via Steam or Origin etc…

wouldnt be surprised LoL makes a **** ton of cash. Though it is free to play I just treat it like a subbed game so every few months I will pay some cash to get new skins and I think thats what the majority of people do that make it past the early levelling.

I think the $18.6b figure is for actual paid PC games which generated revenue. As others have said Russia, Germany, US & Asia & other emerging markets are big PC games buyers UK is no longer a big PC games market.

Wonder how much Valve made last year if Steam have 70% of digital sales on PC

It would be pretty nuts if Riot are making more money than Activision-Blizzard.

Blizzard didnt release any games in 2011, but it's still WoW's 10 million subs/microtransactions + the cash Modern Warfare 3 took in.

Jeez.

Nice to see they're doing well though, I wonder if they will expand from the MOBA scene and what into.
