I've been out of touch with PC games for a while... used to be pretty into it during the days when Lucasarts used to rule... however got fed up of keeping up to date with all the hardware demands that recent games have (e.g. Crysis etc) and switched over to a PS3 :D

Looking to get back into PC Gaming on a limited basis... anything on PC that can't be done better by a PS3?

e.g. any decent strategy games or adventure games etc?

thanks

RTS - Starcraft2 and for me the original Supreme Commander with its add-on Forged Alliance. SupCom 2 is a watered down version as it was also on consoles. I also have Sins of a Solar Empire to play which I hear is very good.

Everything CAN be done better by a PC, but that only works if the game is on that platform and you have good enough kit. What you get for under £300 in a PS3 is pretty damn remarkable and I'm glad I have one.

dragon age, and mass effect series. played them on console and on pc, and they play far better on pc. and not too intensive either.

Sins of solar empire! Pc game of 2008 if I remember correctly...dodgy title but super smooth graphics, lush gameplay and can suck you in for hours. Getting the big mother ships in the game are awesome....highly recommend it to everyone as I don't think enough pc users have played it despite all the awards it rightfully got.

Visit GoG.com mate, there isn't any need to get a monster PC for the games you're interested in.

Likes of Sim City 4, Civilisation 4/5, Anno 1404 can all be played on a decent PC(Anno 1404 requires a bit more power for the highest details).

Likes of the updated Monkey Islands and Sam & Max, they run on 286s lol

If you're quick you can get your teeth into some publisher packs in the Steam sales:

Paradox: £30
THQ: £35
Square/Edios: £50
2K: £60

Have a look and see what you fancy - in terms of Strategy/Adventure, the Paradox pack is definitely worth a look. Most of those games are (I believe) PC-exclusives as well so you probably won't have seen them on PS3.

LOL

It going need to be a very very old or very very low spec PC for a PS3 to be better ;)

can not agree more with this, my machine owes me most likely £500 at the most i reckon, and it will plough through anything at 1920x1080 on my 24in screen, and everything looks a lot prettier than a PS3/360 version

Just checked that website out and claimed a free version of Tyrian 2000, thank you sir! :D

pc will always do better than PS3 (i have ps3 and xbox360), personally i hate FPS on console, but prefer platform games on console

some must have strategy games are (in order from best to least)
- company of heroes
- starcraft 2
- age of empires 1, 2 and 3 (2 being the best, it's a cult classic imo)
- command and conquer series (nothing after zero hour - all releases after are pants imo)
- commandos series 1-3, strike force was abysmal
- world in conflict
- act of war

there are others like Medieval Total War series, Dawn of War and Supreme commander, i just never liked those, but they are quite popular. maybe worth checking out

can't say for adventure games since i never really got into myst and the like

as said above, the consoles do have there place, I have a 360 as well, and wouldnt be without it simply for Tekken 6 and Forza 3 :)

Check out the Total War series, especially the older ones as a) you'll not need a high end pc to run them, and b) they have a huge active modding community.

That's not true. You are talking about on-paper specs but it doesn't work that way. Try playing just cause 2 on a pc with an older graphics card such as a 3850 then try it on a ps3

I'm sure a 3850 would manage Just Cause 2 fine at 1280x720 with no detail settings, which is about what you're getting from a PS3.
