PC gaming compared to console gaming

There'd be only one reason I'd get a console - RPGs. However, the cost has put me off. I've been a converted PC gamer for several years now. The last console I bought was the Gamecube I think. Had some great games but far and few. The MegaDrive, SNES and Saturn were the best consoles for me. Those were the days :D

You just can't justify the cost. Decent gaming rigs are like £1,000 to start, and you have to upgrade them every so often, splashing out £200, £300 on graphics cards.

Xbox360 or ps3 is £150-200 then a decent tv is £600+ and add to that the games costing a lot more especially if you are buying games via Steam sales only so it's more or less in pc favour.

Also a high end pc these days you do not need to upgrade for 2-3 years really unless you are one of those people who do it often selling the previous components whilst upgrading but it's not needed in reality.

I much rather game on a good 30 inch monitor than a good tv too.

There's also the fact a gaming pc is also a pc. If you're going down the console route you're also going to have to spend £200-300 on a laptop so you're able to browse the web, unless you're happy not having internet.

Which rpg's? In my opinion the PC blows the consoles out of the water in this department! Whether it's a game that is available on both PC and console or solely on PC and console, the PC clearly wins! Hmmm there's better rpg games in the indie scene, some for free that can compete with some console rpg's!!!!

Then we have MMORPG ;)

If you like jrpg games then I can see your point though :) Personally I think western made ones are a quantum leap superior.

Console market has been stagnating ever since I can remember, we definitely need XBOX720 and PS4 (from a PC POV) so that the ports can at least look the part for the PC hardware.

The monthly preaching to the converted PC gaming > * thread :)

I was a devout PC gamer too - that was untill online arcady fps that required some skill died out and were replaced by BF and CoD to keep the herds happy. I still keep an uptodate PC in the hopes that RTCW2 will arrive one day and conquer the world, but there's little sign of that happening and these days my favourite games tend to be console exclusives that don't appear on the PC at all.

I agree, its a worrying trend, console exclusives are often great games due to the effort the devs put in (Uncharted for e.g), and these would be amazing on a PC platform, hence why I do own a PS3 :D

Yup. Demon's Souls too. This should have been a PC game! And now the sequel's on its way and looks amazing, but wait, no PC release ...

I'd buy a new PC tomorrow if there were some games that I wanted on the way. Just one decent arcade shooter would do.

The severe lack of fighting games as well, I am a big boxing Fan (no Fight Night on PC , Tekken or even the new MK), I totally agree on the demon souls, that should have been a PC game and Red Dead Redemption also.

- Ridiculously expensive. Have to upgrade your system every frikkin year. Decent graphics cards cost ast much as an entire games console.

Only people with money to burn do that, I generally upgrade every 3 years and then only usually the essential components and even then usually second hand where ever I can get them - that'd be a plus for the PC too, there is a great second hand market for those who aren't fussed about running 40" screens with eyefinity.

I'm guessing it'll be called Xbox-1080, as in able to render full 1080p at high framerates, since many (most?) current games are just 720p upscaled and even then usually locked at a meagre 30fps.

Anyway, I myself 'converted' to PC gaming back in 2006. After catching up with loads of classics, it's my preferred platform by far. Now only view consoles good for casual, 'party' games.
