PC gaming rawr!

Nothing to do with nostalgia here pal, just decent gameplay and not treating the player like an idiot. I do play them but I'm also entitled to ask for a decent game if I'm going to fork out £30 of my hard-earned...

If the graphics are functional I don't really care whether its 2D or isometric or 3D.

I see, you intend to lower the tone of the discussion here. Congratulations.

Actually I'm just sick of seeing so many topics about the death of PC gaming when there is no genuine basis for it. And I mean what I said - if the games back then were so much better, what's to stop people playing them instead of whinging relentlessly on a forum?

Well, the only threads I've made in this section are to *discuss* different games, whether they be old or new.

If you think there are too many pc gaming is dead type threads, why don't you use the RTM button? They do get locked if they're trolling or repetition. Anyway nobody *makes* you read them...

You decided to take my post against you personally but it wasn't aimed directly at you.

And if the thread title had been "PC gaming is dead" then I would have yawned and ignored. But the thread title suggested the opposite, suggesting a positive twist on the rotten old formula. Sadly, the promise was abruptly quelled by the typical doom mongering bemoaning the expiration of their beloved golden age of PC gaming.

I responded to point out not all of us were doing that.

Okay, how about we bring this back on topic. What games out of that list in the OP are you looking forward to?

Not appealed by MMORPGs, but I'm going to give Lord of The Rings Online a try now it's going to be free. Played the original Fable and couldn't get into it. I enjoy most genres of games, and RPG is one of my favourites when it's done right. Bought The Witcher ages ago but haven't yet played it along with about 300 other games I don't have the time for atm. Playing through Mass Effect 2 now though and it's a blast! :D

Even though I dislike Gamespot they've got a poll of the people's most anticipated games. Great to see PC exclusive games topping the list.

You realise the vast majority of people on that site will be using a PC to view the site? that's really gonna skew the results :P

sc2 will dominate the PC gaming scene again just likes its predecessor! :)

I doubt it tbh, the graphics have improved a lot but the core design is still stuck in the 1990's, modern RTS games like Supreme Commander have a much higher unit limit and support much bigger maps for much bigger battles, im sure SC2 will do well with casual RTS gamers who like C&C still and love rushing people but for hardcore RTS fans its gonna be an uphill battle for SC2 unless big changes are made from the beta

you serious? its got a huge following on its own, nevermind about the casual gamers that it will pick up along the way. Gameplay is already close to balanced. the only thing that COULD hold it back is battlenet 2.0, but i doubt it. will become even bigger once the SC1 contacts for the progamers become null.

Starcraft IS for hardcore gamers.

I don't mean to offend here but just because SC2 has a bigger following than the SCom series doesn't make it a better game just a more notorious one, A lot of its following is helped by blizzard engraving its name into every WoW players mind, ill admit SC1 was a good game but not really a Total Annihilation beater (hence why it was voted below TA in the Gamespy "Top Ten Real-Time Strategy Games of All Time" poll in 2004. TA was the best designed most balanced RTS ever and SCom just expanded on that.

If your a casual RTS fan and like short small scale battles and single player campaigns then it will be for you, but if your a hardcore gamer who likes large scale multiplayer RTS games then it wont be able to beat the latest version of SCom, hell it only has 1/4 the unit limit

If SupCom 2 would have been decent and not a flop, comparing it to SC2 they are very different games. Personally I think SupCOM is more innovative, more spectacular and more fun to play, however partly because of this SC2 is better balanced, less cumbersome, and more entertaining to watch, hence why the SC series is an Esport.

Unfortunatly, there is not much comparison becasue of what they did to SupCom2.

Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread when they were talking about FPS's being simpler than they used to be, but I'd love for a proper sequel to Tribes 2 to be made. I still think that game was way ahead of its time (maybe not in graphics but in gameplay and features).

P.s. I'd also agree that Total Annihilation is probably the best and most fun RTS I've ever played.

Interested in (and because)
Witcher 2 - not played original yet but want to.
Halo reach - looking amazing and Halo is always fun online
Gears 3 - like the new colours and women so it could be a fun campaign even if gears 2 wasn't a great campaign.
Fable 3 - only half interested, sounds like the RPG mechanics are going down hill even more and I actually like fable and it's simplicity but it can't go simpler, it just can't.
Zelda - Only half interested again, never been a huge zelda fan but I'll give it a try.
Deus ex 3 - Hell yeah.

That's it from that list. KZ just never interested me, SC 2 lost me when they started splitting the campaigns up, not interested in MMO, not interested in COD or Crysis, I kind of liked portal but never completed it and wasn't as big a fan as everyone else, bored of assassin's creed and I just don't play racing games other than motorstorm and wipeout (simulation titles, rally titles, F1 etc. don't interest but combat / space ones do).

I know you said your not interested in an MMO but what about a space combat MMO? If that might interest you then have a look at Black Prophecy.
