Being a bit selfish here but I think it will be a good thng as well as it kind of gives a boost above the media friendly console gaming.

The CPL has already shown on TV before, even in the UK. I can't remember which channel, one of the news ones on Sky, but they showed the winter championships a couple of years ago.

It's definitely a good thing that the CPL, and maybe other tournaments like it, will be shown on TV as it will more than likely get a lot more people into PC gaming. Not only that, but I don't see any reason the world cup should be on TV but the CPL shouldn't, as they're both fully legitimate sports.

yeah I remember that. A few years back.

"Look at the in game footage of DIABLO II, GROUNDBREAKING" :D

theres been gaming channels, but none dedicated to the competitive and professional side of it (at least as far as i know)

I for one think its about time, I mean gaming has been pro for a few years now. I dont care if wendel is the face I see all the time, this can only be a good thing for PC gaming in the long run.

Wait until you see your freinds say "why are there no PS2/360 competitions?", and then they might realise that PC gaming is the future of pro gaming, and always has been. Watching CS being played for BIG money is very entertaining as the yanks dont always win:)

variation will be key here. having 30min slots each week full of counterstrike or battlefield2 week in week out will be boring as hell. if they can integrate reviews/tests/information about new games and kit then that would be great.
but i hardly think games running at 640x480 at lowest settings is really going to set the world of gamer tv shows alight

you can watch some big quake4 and cs games at www.tsncentral.com at the moment, lanwar(america?) and dreamhack (sweden) both on at the same time, had some awesome games so far today :)

its quite fun to watch, makes you want to be the one playing sometimes to :x

There was a good article on The Global Gaming League last week about that very topic. Basically saying there is going to have to be a massive jump the quality of games and eyecandy to make it mass market appeal. Ultimately who wants to watch 30 mins of css each night

agreed... but why should they run at 640x480 and the lowest setting?
If you use something like HLTV then the game will look as good as the comp using HLTV will be able to produce.

While I can see it's good for the games industry, it's not something that would interest me personally. I don't enjoy watching physical sports on TV and I don't think I'd enjoy this any more.

They will look as good as the HLTV client pc will be able to produce :) Just to clarify even though that is what you meant :) don't forget TV is still as standard 800x600 res.

Why would it be a bad thing.
I could think of some reasons that people might come up with. Not that I agree. If computer gaming became as popular as sports such as football, kids would sit inside all day getting fat and playing games rather than going out and doing something physical. Although I don't believe this would happen.
