PC Gaming With a Controller

Driving in cyberpunk - controller
Driving in GTA 5 - controller

Rocket League - Controller all the time

For driving sims I use a logitech steering wheel and pedals

I've yet to encounter a game that has a walk mode if you attach a controller and doesn't have a walk mode if you don't attach a controller. That's a very strange game design. Who would make a game like that and why?

I think you’re forgetting what analogue means in this regard I.e. variability of movement speed and fine control.

Yes there’s usually a walk and run faster button for digital keyboard control, but there’s no saunter key, no amble key, no light jog key. You get my drift.

I just find keyboard control much less immersive as it’s too abrupt and limited.

Are there any other PC titles which are best played with a controller?

All of them but I know I’m in a minority.

That’s almost 40 years of gaming on PC and consoles and for me, always a controller.

However, I game from the sofa rather than at a desk, which may play a part in that.

I play pretty much anything third person with a pad, menu based RPGs, action games and the like
Splashed out on a Series X wireless pad a couple months back myself and it's a great improvement in terms of playing comfortably compared to my old wired 360 pad. That said it absolutely chews through batteries

Trick is to get yourself 4 rechargeables so you can rotate, with a high mAh rating. Last a lot longer than standard cheapo AA's.

I play almost every game with joypad, got my ps5 joypad for steam games and series x pad for gamepass.

It’s only strategy and RTS I play with KB & mouse.

Ive just bought a 43" predator monitor for my desk and prefer to sit back in my chair with a controller now. Sure, FPS games are not as easy but I only play single player anyway and most FPS games I play are RPG/non twitch games. Never been happier to be honest and this will be an unpopular opinion but a lot of the time Ive used mouse and keyboard because I felt like I *should* be using them.

I've heard that RDR2 is great with a controller. I'm going to give that another try... I always felt the M+K to be off with that game.

My other main gripe with using a controller apart from aim assist, is having to click the left stick down to sprint! Man that's so annoying, much prefer to use the old pinky on the shift key.

This is one of the biggest blockers for me moving completely to PC from Xbox...

I have always preferred using controller for FPS games as I am nowhere near as good with keyboard and mouse. However the problem I find is there is almost a requirement to use keyboard and mouse for competitive FPS on PC, otherwise you are just at a disadvantage from the outset. From my experience it’s the point and click, strategy, survival and ARMA style of games that seem to work well with keyboard and mouse due to the number of buttons, inventory functions etc. that are within the game.
