PC getting owned by DiRT

I get good performance with everything on high inc AA @ 1440x900. I prefer eye candy over extreme high def.

Mine hovers around 30FPS with the medium pre-set at 1024*768 :( That's the demo though but looks like the full version isn't any better.

Have you installed the patch that came out today, may boost the performance a bit.

It does run poor, even the GTX/Ultra's are getting pretty poor frame-rates, in the demo i get about 33 to 40 odd everything high, 2xAA @ 1280x1024, not the best in the world, but its playable still, gona get the full game when i get around to it.

Might try a lower reselution then. everything was medium except resolution which i changed to 1280x1024 without thinking lol.

It seems to play smoothly on my machine with every setting maxed out @1280 x 1024, it looks nice and fast anyway. I haven't actually measured the fps in game, not sure how.

I'm also playing with a keyboard, the control is so imprecise and it makes it pretty frustrating, anyone know if a ps3 controller can be made to work on a pc if plugged in through usb?

If anything use a 360 controller it's automatically mapped perfectly to every button.

Yes you can either get USB controllers, or you can Get USB adapters to use your exsisting PS controllers. I had the ready to plug and play USB controller new for £7 delivered.

Demo is probably the worst performance I've seen from any game:

Venice @ 2.5ghz
2gig PC3200
8800GTS-320 (overclocked)

640x480
All settings on low
0xAA
0xAF
NV control panel set to max performance

Min framerate of 18fps in the buggy race.

Now I know that's a crappy cpu by today's standards, but I would have thought in 640x480 low settings it would at least be playable on a 8800.

runs @ 40 fps+ or higher on my E6600@ + gts 320mb @ 1280 x 1024 with everything on max and it feels surprisingly smooth as i'm usually fussy about anything below 120fps solid :p must be the type of game it is.

Why on earth you have a Venice with a 8800 is beyond me. :p

I've upgraded to C2D but the mobo was DOA.... awaiting RMA replacement.

Generally speaking most games are GPU limited in normal gaming settings anyway....

^If you look here you can see that a x2-3800+ with a 8800GTS utterly destroys an FX-62 with a 1950XTX. For gaming, spending the extra on a gfx card is nearly always worth it in comparison to other areas of the system. Or in other words, while a well balanced system looks good on paper, it's often not the most efficient.

Anyone using Vista 64?

You can't activate the game using the CD check, it then ask's you for a CD Key as an alternative...............which isn't on the disc or any of the game packaging.

Apparently it's a starforce/Vista 64 issue.
