Pc graphics. No where near as good as consoles !

my brother genuinely thought skyrim was best on the xbox.

i then got it on my pc and even without hd texture packs or mods he was shocked at the improvement in graphics, smoothness and load times

To be fair, we're again comparing our rigs to consoles which are a world apart in cost. The chances are most of what we're talking about involves spending at the very least £500 over what they would be spending on their computer (standard laptop) anyway which is far more (at the moment) than the start up costs of getting a console.

At the same price point, particularly at launch, I would say that consoles are better. Games are optimized for them so even if they don't look as good as maxed out PC games, imo they tend to look a lot more polished than most PC games when you start dropping settings - when you drop significant parts of PC graphics settings you get a couple of things looking great and a couple of things looking awful which is more of an immersion breaker for me than universally average graphics you get on consoles.

they aren't world apart in costs to make..

consoles aren't sold at cost though they are sold at a loss and make the money back from the games

In a discussion at work today about games. The two guys I was talking with we're deciding weather to get the ps4 or new Xbox. So I said everybody should just switch to pc gaming as its far better. To which one of them replied "yeah but the graphics ain't half as good on a pc"
Lol some people are too funny.

Congratulations

Such a pain explaining to the other kids at school how "wasd" works. It's also a pain convincing them how much more superior our hardware is compared to theirs.

+1

Ive given up after the "Hahaha you sit at a desk for work and sit at another desk with keyboard at home..u mad bro" comments.

I've had 3-4 people in the last few days comment on how good games on PC look. One was impresses by AC2 and CoD BO2 and the others FIFA 13. Obviously not the best looking games but so much better than consoles.

Do I need to get the Steam survey out again

For the majority of PC gamers their graphics will be well behind what the PS4 will do. Most people don't have Tri SLI'ed 680's at home. They have a shop bought generic PC with a low end graphic card, if not onboard, and anything they run on it looks like its from the PS2.

And if the PS4 comes out at £400, theres no chance of building a PC that will beat it for that money. People who have grown up in the console ecosystem are not aware of the level of PC performance, and why would you expect them to be?

I've been having the most pleasing conversation today...the direct opposite of yours! :D

Seems more and more of my mates are moving to what they call "the dark side" and buying gaming PCs in favour of their consoles, all thanks to having children :p Which i can relate too...soon as you have a toddler, you no longer have control of your TV.... it's peppa pig and in the night garden 24/7. Desk with a computer and monitor all seems nicely out of bounds to little fingers! :D

You couldn't build a PS4 for that price either.

7850's are pretty cheap now.
If you don't count the cost of a monitor , keyboard and mouse you could probably get pretty close and taking into account the cost of whatever laptop most people own then you could probably easily do it if you took the value of said laptop into account as they wouldn't have needed to buy one

Most people who buy consoles probably wouldn't want a gaming pc even if you offered them one for the same price as a console anyway though and it makes no difference to me if some people think consoles are better

PS4 has equivalent of tri sli 680s?

No. It doesn't.

It has a 7850 which will be under £100 second hand and slightly over £100 new, by the time PS4 is out.

The upgrade cost to a PS4 equivalent rig will be minimal for anyone who doesn't already have one (or better).

I honestly don't believe how someone could be dumb enough to think that... even if they have no knowledge of technology it is just logical that a console is now 7 years old and new PC hardware is released every year...

I assume that given the conversation was about PS4's and the next Xbox, they are talking about next gen, not this gen.

Replace "Tri SLI'ed 680's" with "a top end gaming rig" and maybe we can keep this thread from going south within 2 pages.

Except you're still wrong. My rig which could probably be built for £400 has more grunt than a PS4, and once they start fully utilising PS4 power and my xfire 5850s start to fall behind, I'll be able to outpower it again with a relatively cheap card upgrade - my rig isn't even close to a 'top end gaming rig'.
