OK since yesterday my PC has started "hanging" at shut down ...I go to shut it down within windows the monitors go off as normal ....but the PC itself stays on...and I have to manually shut it down using the start-up button on the front of the case....and I have no clue as to whats going on and why......also CPU-Z and HWMornitor wont run properly either , they both freeze ..and I'm not sure if that has any connection to why the PC wont shut down as it should, any help and advice would be appreciated :)

thanx :)

I'll be back on here later.

A few things to try

Remove 1 stick of RAM
Try moving the RAM to different slots (daul channel still)
Try without GPU
Try without sound card
(when you can)try updating drivers for GPU, sound card ect..

OK thanx Doomed I'll give those a try .

Also I didnt mention it hangs on restart too

EDIT:...took the sound card out...but still having the same issue, I'll try the ram in the morning see what that does

Try shutting down from safe mode.. if that works try again a few more times. If it works every time, you've an application that's causing you a problems. Remove all applications until problem goes away, then add back one by one until you've identified the culprit.

Also, look at the event log.. This give you some insights what going on. Event log is always over looked but is there to help you.

If that proves nothing, then start to look at the RAM as Doomedspeed says:
Read my RAM troubleshooting guide here

OK thanx Admiral

Update : I had a mooch about while I was drinking some Tea and getting myself ready for a long day of PC fixing :D

So I decided to look for any software/Applications and I came across an ASUS folder containing a sub folder named "AAHM" which in turn contains "aaHMSvc" and "AsAcpi.dll" ....which must have been from when I was running my Formula Z mobo and 8320 CPU , , and as I don't have any ASUS hardware in my PC anymore I decided to delete the folder ..but it wouldn't/wont delete ...so..after a short Google I disabled the ASUS Com Service in Task Scheduler, and so now my PC seems to be working as it should and shuts down and starts up nice and fast :)

Anyway...thanx guys for the help much appreciated :)

Good work.

So you are running a windows build from a previous chipset/mobo install? If so , this is a typical example why you should always fresh install.

If you ever suspect software, always check safe mode first because if it working, then chances are it's driver / software related :)

Yeah Admiral I was ...I had had my AMD setup a few weeks back and I didn't do a fresh install of Windows ..not good I know...but

And again thanx for you advice/help
