PC hardware failure

right, slight breakthrough. it POSTs with one stick of RAM in the third slot along from the CPU.

thoughts?

basically, slots 1 and 3 are working fine with both sticks installed, but any attempt at trying the dual channels won't work as the two closest to the CPU aren't working.

That can be one of 2 things.
Firstly, the slots could be faulty and that means a possible RMA. Check that your cooler is not to tight, as it can warp the board enough to affect the ram slots.
Secondly, if you have a couple of bent pins in the Cpu, they may be affecting the dual channel. So have a closer look, preferably with some sort of magnification lens.

So, it works with a stick of ram in slots 1 and 3 but not 2 and 4?
Is that the same with the other stick?

i will try to sort out the RMA now then. we'll see how that goes!

well that is incredibly helpful and kind of you. thank you. i will do.

new motherboard, everything is fine.

however, a few questions i'd be grateful if you could help me with them!

when booting the pc, i don't seem to be able to boot into the BIOS, as my displays stay in sleep mode until it reaches the windows log in screen? i was tapping at del the entire boot time.

and! strangely, i apparently now have a third montior which has been labelled as number 1 which is tiny and quite frankly doesn't exist. any idea?

FINALLY. if i'm going to be overclocking the 4670k with a prolimatech panther, what overclock and voltages e.t.c are recommended without frying the hell out of my new toys?

thanks guys.

If you have fast boot enabled in the bios, I think it goes straight to windows, but don`t quote me on that. Sleep mode only works within windows.
You could shut down the PC and restart it, that should give the option to get into the bios.
Or disconnect the OS drive. Once you get into the bios, then check out your settings.

a restart just takes it straight back to windows log in.
detatched both of my hard drives and connected the monitor to the mobo rather than the gpu and i just get asked to attach a boot device.
sigh.
