i'll have a look buy i dont think i have one

Every mobo has one, the cmos is what keps your bios settings etc while you have no power to the pc, the power is kept by the small flat battery. remove the battery for a few minutes to clear (this will reset the bios to default) so obviously you will need to alter voltages and timings for ram etc...

Most new motherboards have a jumper next to the cmos battery which will reset also but i find it easier to just remove the battery.

Also, you have got a power connector going to the gfx card dont you?

Also this morning, it turned on for a brief moment and began to start up then turned back off and itsd flashing again and nothing would work...

It would suggest thats something is getting in the way of boot up.

As i said above try reseating everything (memory, gfx card) make sure the cpu cooler is on properly and making a good contact. Check all cables are connected firmly (not half in). If that doesn't work try one stick of ram (alternate to rule out one stick being faulty).

What power supply have you got?

A friend bought a whole new setup (inc 8800GT) and didn't bother with a new psu (had 300W) and it was a no go.

Failing all the abover have you got other components you can try in ther place? Make sure a jumper isn't positioned in the wrong place and shorting the board.

Yep, I just dont understand that it was working last night all well and installed most of the stuff and shut it down just before I went to bed, turned it all off by the plugs...

And now I try turn it on this morning and nothing happens...

It does sound like somethings at fault, its a process of illimination now.

Then again if something isn't seated right then it could be the cause.

When it first started up this morning and then went back off, it mentioned something about a CMOS Error and to Press F1 to continue is DEL to enter set-up... Also I hadntput the disc I got from the motherboard in (Think its the drivers?) Would this matter? I was in a rush to go to bed so just installed Vista etc...

But yeh, i'll try reset the CMOS Later...

Well you have to install Vista before you can install drivers anyway. The cmos error is probably the cause. Try resetting cmos before we go any further. the ngo straight into bios and set voltages etc.

The driver CD wont be a problem. This sounds like a hardware issue.

Definitely power down completely, unplug, reset the CMOS jumper (leave it in the reset position for at least a minute). Then hold down the power button for a few seconds and then try and boot.

CMOS errors can often be quite vague when it comes to determining the problem. As others have said it's now a process of elimination. It's tedious and frustrating but you're going to have to strip things back as much as possible and add new variables in gradually to diagnose the problem. You might have a faulty component.

What you might want to consider is RAM voltages. What RAM do you have? If you are able to boot up again, check in the BIOS to see what the voltage is. I had a similar problem with my build and it was because it was my RAM's stock voltage was 2.1v, and my motherboard (also an Abit IP35) defaulted it to 1.8v.

Only thing i could find was one guy with a printer connected that caused cold boot issues, he removed the printer and no more problems.
