Pc just keeps on restarting

Hey guys,

i got a problem with my computer,today i thought it would give it a dust out..clean the fans and everything as it was quite dusty,Put back in my graphics card,sound card etc...go to switch it on and it powers on for a second then restarts,then comes on again itself then restarts again.

Nothings showing up on the screen,my monitors going into low power mode (standyby)

What ive tried so far...

Took out cmos battery for a min...no luck
took out and re-seated all cards...no luck
checked all cables...theyre where they should be..all are in.

Im out of ideas. :confused:

appreciate any help

Do you get any post beeps from your motherboard speaker?

Have you maybe forgotten to put a screw in the motherboard? Sounds like the system is shorting somwhere it think.

@moothead-ive not got a speaker on the mobo. :/

@hbk123-I didnt remove the motherboard,all i removed was the Gpu,soundcard,killer nic.

All power connections in tight, try leaving the battery out for 10 mins and make sure the power is switched off.

Tried only one single memory module.

if you used compressed air - turn it off and walk away for an hour, then try again.

sometimes bits of liquid comes out and u need to let it dry

I had this problem, it's the infamous gigabyte reboot cycle. Check the post beeps as mentioned above. I fixed mine by buying an internal motherboard speaker, three beeps gave vga error. Reseated the gfx card and it started to work again. The problem hasn't reappeared again.

@RJC-left out the battery,still no luck.
I left out the gpu and tried to see if the system would stay on,same results :/

@billy-no i didnt use compressed air.

i hope i didnt kill something :/

Similar problem here, Gigabyte board and three beeps. Turned out I didn't plug the Graphics Card into the PSU >.>.

@Nevak - Have you not got a Motherboard speaker at all? Check your motherboard box/PC case box for one and listen for the beeps it makes when you start up your PC.

Well good news i found out the mobo speaker,put it in..

the bad news...im not getting any beeps at all,i think it restarts that quick it doesnt have chance too lol.

Try one stick of Ram and then if it still doesn't work try the other stick of ram. If it still doesn't work try using a different graphics card if you have one available. If it still doesn't try disconnecting and reconnecting all the power leads and sata cables and try a different PSU if you have one handy. Also try re-seating the motherboard to rule out a short. As you can see, I'm thinking of everything it could possibly be here

Tried both sticks of ram seperate-no change
tried using another gpu (8800GT)No change
disconnected-reconnected all cables-No change.

Arghhh! :/

From what ive been reading it could be a a Voltage reg problem on the mobo or PSU problem...thing is i dont have either of those i could swap out to test.

@moot-Nope,I dont think i even get half a second before it restarts again :/

@Arc-OCZ ModXstream 600w (Model OCZ600MXSP)

Ive had this psu for ages though,i purchased that psu when the HD4890s were released.

Something very similar happened to me about three years ago, turned out it was a psu problem. Yours might not be, but it's what seems the most likely atm imo. These things can be fine until you decide to do a bit of cleaning etc, has happend to me more than once, had a couple of issues with, in my case, a thermaltake psu.

Edit : I don't suppose on the off chance you have noticed your psu making more noise lately, have you?

Just realised i had a spare Gigabyte SuperB 460w PSU in loft,got it down and put it in..im still getting the same results with this other psu..???

Ive tried everything everyones suggested,ran the bare min and no play...dont fancy forking out £50-70 on a new 1156 mobo thats a dead socket!.....probably be better off selling my cpu right and getting a AM3+ board and one of those new upcomming bulldozer cpus?

i can still use my current ram on an AM3+ board?
