Help  :)

The kit:

Samsung d5000 LED TV (native res 1920x1080)
ATI 6800 (11.6)
Windows 7

The problem:

When I set the res to 1920x1080 (win7 says 'recommended') colours look weird and the desktop doesnt fit on the screen propley.

When set to 1360x768 it looks fine.

Ive tried a DVI -2- HDMI lead and a brand new HDMI-2-HDMI (v1.4). Same.

Whats going on here?

Thanks

It could be the timings (porch settings) aren't right, and so the TV is trying to scale the input even though the visible part of the picture is at the TVs native resolution.

Go to catalyst control centre, look through the options labelled "My digital flat panel" and tweak them, esp colour and scaling. Should fix it for you.

Upon further investigation it seems my weird colours (looks like way to high contrast) only shows in windows. In game its fine?

I sorted the not fitting by 'zoom to fit' in the telly options.

Still confused as to why this happens. My old LCD TV used to do this too, but all the time (windows/in game etc...). I put that down to being HD 'ready' rather than full HD and displaying 1920x1080.

The resolution may have something to do with the settings on the television. Go into the picture settings and turn overscan off.

It's more to do with TVs being TVs and not monitors.

Very few TVs will take their native resolution unless the refresh and timing information is correct. Even then, some TVs insist on trying to process the picture rather than allowing the source to drive the display pixel-for-pixel.

Sometimes the cure is as simple as setting the aspect ratio to "Just" or "Native" and dialing in the right front & back porch settings. Other times the refresh rate has to be set specifically - Fujitsus used to only do pixel perfect mapping at 60.01Hz refresh - Then there are those TVs such as some Pioneers where the only solution was a tweak in the service menu.

In the end whether the TV is HD Ready or Full HD makes very little difference. It's the way the TV processes the signal that is the key.

Could be as lucid says that Samsung tvs process the signal before displaying it whereas my panny plasma takes a 1080p input via hdmi and works first time every time without a single issue.

It's nice to just plug in my PC or a laptop and away you go :)
