Hey guys.

I have been playing planetside 2 recently but my rig locks up after about 20 mins of play.

My First thought was temps, but it would appear that temps are all good - CPU around 60 and graphics around 50, I am fully watercooled. CPU block is XSPC Delta, Graphics block is a universal with ram sinks on all Vram

I haven't got any other graphic intensive games to check if its soley related to planetside or if its just under heavy load.

Thanks

Thanks guys, I am no running an M4, I run Samsung 840 on this particular rig. Nothing is OC right now all stock.

Is there any software that could detect where the source of the issue is IE CPU, GPU etc?

A part of me thinks that it maybe the GTX660, maybe the ram is over heating (although ramsinks are installed)

Sorry for the triple post, as advised I am currently running a stress test, FurMark - Been running now for a little over 40 minutes(more than I can play Planetside for) and no issues, sold 64oC with fans on high. (planetside2 was only maxing out at 51oC on the GPU.

I will next try a CPU stress and see how that fairs, but I am starting to think it may not be a hardware issue.

The one thing that is concerning me is it's a full PC lock up not just a program crash so I hope I am not causing any major damage to my system.

Is that the only game that suffers?

Can also run windowed. Can sometimes prevent freezes when the game crashes.

I use OCCT for my tests. I'm a bit wary about the GPU stress test, as it's a Furmark clone, some say it's not as bad on the components.

Thanks again for the input guys,

So i have compleated my memtest and that came out with no issue, i ran fur mark for 45 mins with no issues and ran intel burn test x 10 again no problems.

PSU, feels like its cool, exhaust air is cool too.
Againg caps, i am unsure about - How would I test that?

Have a look in event manager and see if that gives any clues to help narrow it down a bit. Have you checked for viruses etc?

Not too sure myself, I know burst caps are visible, but in power circuits there is an age factor and the PSU output diminishes with time. How old is the PSU?
Has the PC had substantial overclocks? Heavy graphics card demands etc. You can check the voltages in HWMonitor or similar to see if they are within spec. when load testing.

Again thanks for the input, The PSU, GPU are all about 3 weeks old (maybe a touch more) The caps on the Mobo are all Solid Jap caps so they 'SHOULD' be OK.

After running mutliple stress tests and no system crashes I am starting to think its more of a compatability issue rather than an actual hardware related issue.

I have a fresh install of Windows and Have ran multiple Virus, Malware, spyware scans.

I will install some other games and see how she stands,

It's PS2, not your rig, read the PS2 forums, there are players with killer rigs that have issues.

Was playing myself until recently, can't cope with restarting the game 4 times in less than an hour. I am speaking from the perspective of playing over the course of several patches, then later encountering issues, so it's not a simple case of *it doesn't work for me*, i simply ran out of patience waiting for them to resolve long standing issues.

That all said, i just patched last night, ready to give it another shot....

Thanks for that, Guess I'll have to wait for another update.

Okay, After some more looking into I don't think this is completely game related.
I tried running this game on my other rig and got a few hours game play out of it and the only crash I did get was a 'back to windows crash' not a full PC lock up so I think there is another culprit at hand.
Are there any good utilities that can do a system health check?

is the other pc of the same specs? like t31 said people with killer rigs have problems so it could just be a game compatibility issue with your particular setup and not actually the setup causing the freezes, also what is your specs your signature just says this for me
Please read the FAQ and rules regarding signature sizes

Well, thats a bit of a joke, my SIG was no bigger than yours and just listed my specs.
One rule for one and another for everyone else I guess.

Anywho the 2nd Rig is considerably more powerful, i7 3770k 32gb ram and GTX660.

The rig thats problematic is an i7 920D 6gb ram and gtx 660.

What my concern is, when it crashes the PC slows RIGHT down to 1-2FPS for a few seconds then just locks up totally.

Seems really odd. One thing I did notice is if I reboot, reload the game right away it crashes maybe 2-3mins after the first crash - I think something must either be overheating or is being stressed out too much - HWmonitor records all temps are good but maybe something thats not got a temp monitor?

Rules is 4 lines max, yours came up to 6 on my screen.

Maybe you should try get another game to test with to see if the same problem occurs.

have you tried any other games on the i7 920d? like battlefield or arma 3/2 anything that will really stress the cpu and gpu at the same time also for memtest how long did you run it for because you have to run it for about 10~ hours to get a decent set of results, i know people who have had memtest pass the first 7 tests and then suddenly spew out errors on the last test
