I've just finished putting together a gaming system with the following specs.
7800x3d
Gigabyte B650-DS3H
32gb crucial ddr5
9070xt

It all seems to work great until I reboot it then nothing will open or launch with the exception of file explorer.

So far I've tried, 3 windows installs, 2 different ssds, a different ram kit. I've removed the WiFi card thats installed.

I updated the bios and thought it was fixed everything was working great but then when I restarted again it is back to being unresponsive.

I can't even open task manager.

I'm starting to suspect it's the second hand board I bought from Facebook :(
Can anyone offer anything else to try?
Thanks
Scott

Have you tried the SSD in the second or third m2 slot and or tried with 1 ram stick?

2 sticks of ram can still cause an issue.

That's weird it only works on first boot.

If the BIOS update fixed it temporarily, I wonder if there's some kind of corruption.

Did you do a full CMOS reset/battery pull?

Did you change any settings in the BIOS?

To rule out drivers or anything coming from the Internet, is the PC stable when you first build and don't connect to the Internet or uodate drivers etc from the rebuild?

Also, are you rebuilding with the same Windows usb ISo? Could be worth building a new one.

I'd go with what Brackish said for now and try a different SSD slot or even a different SSD type if you can but looking online you don't have any SATA ports.

You could try booting Windows from a USB drive if you have no other options on the board.

I'd also be running Prime95 and Memtest86+ for a good 24 hours as well.

It seems to be after I had installed the chipset drivers.

It was very strange but I seem to have resolved it now. Not before swapping out the motherboard, CPU, and PSU.

I swapped the board out and it was still the same, tried a different PSU, then tried a 7600 CPU and it was all good. I then tried a different 7800x3d and it was playing up again.

I then tried one of the 7800x3ds in a different system and it was fine.

I went back to the ram and tried it one stick at a time with and without expo both fine.

Tried both sticks without expo, fine.
Tried with expo and it was hanging again.
I've upped the memory voltage to 1.375v and now it all seems fine. Not sure why it was playing up with the difference memory kit though..

not sure this helps but ive had issues with ram with expo off pc is stable with expo on i get random crashes to fix it i enabled expo then manually set the ram to 5800mts or mhz in bios

with expo set at 6000 i get errors on memtest if set to 5800 its all clear

this is with a 9800x3d on a b650 board with latest bios

Did 6 hours of prime 95 last night all fine. Turned it back on again today and having the same issue again. FML

Literally the only 2 components I haven't changed are the sn550 SSD and the 9070xt. I think I might have to swap those out next.

Took the SSD out and it seemed fine but after a restart it's back to the same nonsense
