pc mag recommendation any good?

hehe from custom pc mag? :P yea i would say thats a nice spec but i dont know why they choos XFX 8800gt 256mb, i thought any manufactures was the same... :D just get any 8800gt 256mb

its temting me to do it and overclock it, i havent done anything with the spec of my pc lately. (lol just check signature lol)

All parts decent enough although I'd just pick any decent 2gb kit of PC6400 and save yourself the £10 or so. Geil PC6400 C4 and OCZ Platinum Series PC6400 were both that much cheaper last time I looked and would do equally well.

I'd then put the money saved into getting a 512mb version of the 8800GT, OcUK were doing their own branded version for about £130 I think.

It was to do with the price. They had a small budget, £446 if i remember rightly, to build a gaming pc. They could have done it cheaper if they shopped around a bit more but they wanted to get as much as possible from one place to save on postage. Just shows what you can get for relatively little money though.

i have 19" flat screen and vista so its looking good for a new pc. yeh it was the magazine, might go hunting for good prices now then

Do what he said, no point getting the 256Mb now the OCUK has 512Mb for £130.

The motherboard is good solid vanilla board but it DOES NOT support 4 banks of dual sided memory as explained on the OCUK site so if you intend to add extra 2Gb later I'd add a little bit more towards a P35-DS3L. Built a rig for my friend with this board and it's perfect.

Been looking at b-grade stuff myself but a bit concerned on what makes an item b-grade. If its just a scratch, fine, but if it's used/returned/unclockable or whatever what rights to return / rma do you have?

maybe OCUK should starts a thread on who can build the cheapest gaming rig?;)...from OCUK prducts of course

OCUK value gamer :p
