Was just wondering what magazines people in here buy or subscribe to or whether they refuse to as they feel its all already available on the net.

I used to buy different ones based on content such as PC Format and CustomPC, before that more games oriented such as PCGamer. Reason i ask is i cant afford to keep buying loads of different magazines each month. I decided to setup a trial subscription to CustomPC as im starting to try and learn more about the best hardware for upgrades etc. Do people rate it? Chose it as its cheaper, gives reviews on hardware and games and generally like the writing style, though i have read better.

I subscribe to PCGamer and have done so for a few years now. I always find their reviews pretty accurate, if a little off the mark recently. But then its always hard to review a game, because different people like different things. I also their 'Extra-life' section with info on various mods and gaming stories. Their hardware section is also OK, though it does need some updating.

As for your comment about it being readily available on the internet, I prefer reading it in a magazine. If I'm choosing a game to buy, I will always get a variety of opinions anyway, from various sources.

I just bought a copy of PC Gamer today, nice article on crysis in there. Whoever read it did you read the part about sanbox2, the stuff you can do sounds amazing

I haven't bought a PC magazine in a couple of years. I look at them in shops now and then and normally the information in the articles is vague, innacurate or just out-of-date. The internet>PC magazines

That said, there can be some unique stuff in magazines. I recall flicking through a Custom PC magazine in a highstreet shop a while back and seeing an article on building your own laptop. I've never seen much on custom laptops on the net.

I buy PC mags (mainly Gamer and Format) for their hardware reviews and such really. They're often miles too late gaming review-wise. That's what I use Gamespy and what not for.

Stopped buying mags regularly when I got net access... don't think I've bought one this millennium, and the last one was mainly just to read on the train.

i'm a subscriber to Custom PC mag and have been for nearly 2 years.

it covers everything i want to read so not going to change that.

I subscibre to...

CustomPC (favourite mag)
PCZone
PCGamer
PCFormat
Edge (though don't really read it properly anymore, not since I stopped playing on consoles)
MaximumPC (US mag)

I should cancel some of them really (Edge, PCFormat, either Zone or Gamer), never seem to get round to it...
