PC Magazines

I stopped buying PCgamer because of £5.99 :( price tag

In the old days paying £3-5 for a mag was OK because the CD on the front was actually worth having, i.e. people either didn't have the internet or were on metered dialup so downloading demos, mods etc wasn't all that feasible.

To tempt me to buy a mag now it would have to be priced similar to 'normal' magazines i.e. under 3 quid, and even then it would need to have a very high editorial standard and offer something I couldn't get online.

There are still some good articles in the printed media but the fact that all the news is outdated, and hardware articles aren't in depth enough puts me off.

Stopped subbing to PC Zone when I didn't get the job I went for there. was >< this close and they ended up taking someone else internally. :/ Don't like reading it after that - think about what could've been :(

Buy PC Gamer very occasionally if there's a review of particular interest but it's not what it was. Unfortunately, Future seems to have gone down the "lad's mag" editorial with some of their publications, Total Film is another of their publications which started well but went down hill.

So much information on-line these days and a magazine is out of date by the time you buy it. Also object to the shrink wrapping which means you can't see what's inside before buying and this does not unfortunately deter those who want to use WH Smith etc. as a free library anyway.

Pc format but only when I'm really bored and having a night in, usually accompanied with new scientist.

I've found NS has become really tedious over the last year or so. I used to get it quite often as it's a fair price but they don't seem to contain much text on what the glossy and exciting covers try to sell me these days. Or maybe I've just become more cynical :D . Still, it's one of the better mags out on our shelves for sure!

Haven't bought a PC mag for a while now. I bought PC Gamer and Zone for years, and before those I was regularly getting PC Plus and PC Format. EDGE is one of the better mags but for PC I'd probably go with Gamer if I had to choose (presuming it's still of the quality it was a few years ago). But like many others, I can't justify spending on these while I have net access. Journeys and time away from the net are the only times I will get a mag now. Bit of a shame in a way, but that's the age we live in ;)

.

what annoys me, the really interesting articles are about one paragraph, where some crap gets a 6 page spread .

I sometimes buy that cheapy mag the £1.30 one, cant remember what its called though, I only buy it because I like reading the problem pages, no idea why :p

MicroMart (£1.99) or PC Answers (£1.49). I buy PC Answers regularly because the news pages are always interesting :D. Micromart is also a good read, a lot of anti Microsoft and DRM articles :D.

I reguarly buy Custom PC, by far the best for hardware, and PC Format which has improved a lot lately. On the games front I tend to go for PC Gamer, I used to get PC Zone but it seems to aim more for the younger market.

I used to buy Custom PC, but found it a tad boring... I think it was because it only reviewed 3 games, and the rest of the features were quite repetitive...

PC Format, focuses on both games and hardware :)
