PC not booting after installing NZXT Hue+ lights

Hi all

Got a strange issue where my PC is no longer booting.

So I was installing an NZXT Hue+ lighting unit, and as I wanted to be turning the PC on and off often, to check the positioning, move the cables etc.. I thought I'd disconnect the power from the SSDs so it wouldn't cause any harm to the OS and would only ever boot to the POST screen (so I could safely turn it on and off using the power button).

Since putting it all back together it now doesn't boot.

It would normally spin the fans up to full speed for about 7 seconds then they slow down, this time they're only spinning for about 3 seconds then slowing down. No BIOS beeps because I don't have the speaker at my current location.

Tried removing CMOS battery for a few minutes.
Tried removing the NZXT kit.
Tried with SSDs powered and not powered, no output to the screen (but there are three ports on the graphics card so not sure if it has defaulted to an odd one)

One strange thing is that the light on my Corsair H100i is dimly lit, even when the PC is off and unplugged after a few minutes... Now I don't remember specifically looking at this before... but I think I would have noticed it - so I think that is somewhat 'new' behaviour if it gives any clues.

Any ideas please before I start unplugging bits like graphics cards etc?

Thanks!

I should add that the PC was transported very gently in a car for about 5 miles before the LED install. And it was also dusted with a Metro DataVac. I really regret now not powering it on in between all those stages to check it as it would have helped with troubleshooting maybe. I only got the monitor and keyboard and mouse out here after all of the above.

Fans spin at full speed for longer (what seems to be the normal amount of time) with both no graphics card, and a replacement graphics card.

Fans spin at full speed for the short (strange) length of time when the GTX460 is installed. One thing we noticed was that the fans on the GTX460 do not appear to be spinning. Not sure how long this may have been running in the case like this though. There are two connections from the aftermarket cooler (accelero twin turbo) for it, one that says 7v and one that says 12v. I believe one of these should be unplugged and this is how it was when I looked, 7v was plugged and 12v was unplugged.

So really unsure here... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Unplug power. Remove mobo battery (I know you said you've done this) for half a hour.

Check ALL connections, reseat GFX (even remove it for testing) and try again.

It's going to be process and elimination unfortunately.

What make PSU do you have?

So I left it overnight and then transported it back home... Aside from the bios needing setting up again, it outputted just fine to the monitors at home and booted first time. I'm really confused if I'm honest and unsure on what could have caused it... Hmm

About to refit the LEDs

My graphics card fans are still not spinning however.

Based on the fact I don't really game on this... Is it possible that it could have been like this a while and I simply haven't noticed? As it wouldn't get too hot during normal use to cause issues?

How safe is it to use this? Obviously I need it fixed, I mean in the meantime... Do gfx card fans tend to blow onto the heat sink or pull / exhaust away from it?

Thinking if I could temporarily position a case fan there instead

12v is reaching the fans (just checked with a multimeter) - so they simply seem dead?

What GPU is it? Are you sure the fans don't activate until a certain temperature is reached?
It is a PNY GTX 460 Enthusiast Edition with an Accelero Twin Turbo aftermarket cooler.

Is the fan behavior you describe quite standard? I just don't want to run it for long to find out that I'm actually damaging it (if the fans never come on)

But it sounds reasonable as I haven't really done anything to the fans and they're receiving power so should be working
