Hello guys am wanting to change room around to make it more accessible and less clogged up..

Here is how I have it now,
IMAG0637.jpg

PC and TV hooked up with HDMI and Optical cable from sound card to Sound system..

Now if I was to take away the PC unit and move to the other side the room what options do I have for Video and music play back?

I could have the sound system next to PC and run the wires around for the speakers, but what about picture?

Everything keeps point at I should build a mini PC just for music and video but is they really anything else I can do first?

Hope this all makes sense.

Thanks

HDMI cables come in all sorts of lengths... why not just run a long one around the room? Along skirting boards, under the carpets along the walls, whatever. If that's out of the question then a cheap box with wifi like a WDTV, firetv, roku etc would solve the music/videos problem.

Edit - oh, you need the pc screen on it. Surely if you can run speaker cables around you can run a hdmi?

Without looking I was expecting such length cable to be very high priced..
Guess I could do that. Going to price a little amd APU system later see what I can do..

You're only talking a tenner ish for 10-15m of HDMI which should be enough. I have a 10m sitting spare if it's enough and you want it for free.

Thanks am looking at about 25ft.. I'll shop around later, why was I thinking £100 lol shows when I last priced long hdmi cable.

25 ft is only 7.6 meters. It's a short distance, if you don't want mine just grab something from the rainforest. Cheap or expensive, you'll get the same picture on the TV. Really, don't pay more than a tenner unless you're trying to colour match, even then you're only talking a few pounds more.

You're welcome, the offer still stands for the 10m hdmi i have sitting if you want it. It's a white cable i bought a while back when our walls were an off white. It's just random spare junk to me at this point.

Yeah am going to need buy also long optical cable anyways.. Thanks though.

Getting an optical cable to run 25ft around a room might be more of a challenge. Firstly many of them are technically limited to 5m maximum, although some can go up to 10m and some transmitters will work longer distances. You have to also remember that optical cables can not be bent into a tight radius otherwise the beam goes out of the glass fibre.
If you can convert to coax cable instead, you might be better, although this would require a box to convert.
This may also limit the HDMI cable you use, as the thicker cables may also not bend to the tight radius required.

You may want to check how your current cables look bent into corners first before buying longer ones.

Does your TV not have an HDMI audio return channel? I can't think of another reason you would need the optical if running HDMI.

Cable is your best option but if you really don't want to run one then have a look at wireless video senders.
I use a HP wireless tv adapter that sends full hd video and sound over it's own network connection, can do 3d as well.

I can't drill holes in the wall so for my needs its ideal but it does tend to swamp my routers 5ghz signal when it's on.
