hey guys wonder if you can give me some ideas....

just came back from holiday and went to start up my pc. it powered up, fans started turning then it powered down again after about 3-5 seconds. No post screen and no beeps. Thinking that the power supply may have chucked it I swapped it out with another "known good" one that i have kicking around.

Still the same

disconnected all the power going to the drives and dvd roms but the problem still occurred

removed the memory chips and graphics card to rule them out of the equation but it still did the same

pulled the cpu out as well, just for good measure and it stayed powered up..

Tried the cpu in an identical system i have in another room and it powered up fine and dandy...

I am thinking its the mother board...

have you tried your memory in a different computer?

& have you also tried the psu in another computer?

swapped the psu out for a know good one

fault still occurs with no memory in at all. at first i thought it might be a faulty stick but it appears not to be the case

:( doesn't sound promising

Is their any power to the motherboard what so ever?

yeah

its powering up for a few seconds then shutting down. Then it goes into a loop of powering up and down

have you tried 1stick of ram and gfx card and see if you can get to the bios?

it doesnt power up long enough to get anywhere near the bios screen normally takes about 8-10 seconds to get to bios on this pc

update:

pulled the board out of the case and checked for burn/heat marks.... nothing

put the board back in and fitted the cpu, mem etc.... and it seems to be booting up now..

very strange..

will need to get to the bottom of this..
