PC powers on for 1 sec

Hey guys,

Basically my machine powers on for about 1 sec, all the fans spin up.... then it shuts down.... starts again in 2-3 seconds for a 1 second... then shuts down again.

My initial thoughts were that it might be a power supply problem? The trouble is I don't have another power supply to test it with.

PC Specs are:
Asus P7P55D Pro
Intel i5 750
Be Quiet! Straight Power 650W
ATi HD 5850 1GB
OCZ Gold Low Voltage 2 x 2GB DDR3

I've got an old AMD64 system that I might be able to test the power supply on, but I wont be able to use its power supply on the Intel system.

Had the system about 15 months by the way.

Thanks for all your help in advice.

Take the Bios battery out for 33 seconds replace & then try it.

Just tried this, did not work.

I will have to get my AMD system out and try this power supply on it tomorrow.

Will try the memory thing - but I thought it would still at least power on with a RAM problem right?

Sounds identical to what haooened to my sisters old PC and my dad has a techy out who said the motherboard capacitors had broken.

If it was the motherboard, who would I have to contact to get it replaced? It was bought from here in Oct 2009. Would I have to contact Asus or OcUK?

Post a note in the customer forum once your sure it may be the board, Ocuk will probably test it as well.

Nobody else think this sounds like a PSU problem? It certainly could be a motherboard problem though.

Only tests will reveal the answers I suppose.

FWIW, I've never seen BeQuiet! as a reputable PSU company. Always been quite low end in my mind, as regards to component quality, actual output etc. I might see if I can find a review.

Okay, statement taken back. Reviews seem favourable, and no major issues. I suppose it could be getting a little old though. How old is it?

The PSU is the same age as the rest of the system - was bought in Oct 2009.

I've just taken the PSU out of the system and will try it on my AMD64 system tonight or tomorrow.

i have same motherboard, had same problem after an overclock.

turn it on and click the built in mem ok button.

Worked a treat

I'd put my money on PSU. Have you got a PSU tester? Remember if your AMD64 system has lower power draw on startup, it may power that okay. I'd try to test your PSU with a tester or in a similar system, or try another PSU with your failing system.

Tried that, didn't work.

Just tested the PSU on my AMD64 system and it seems to be working fine. Guess it's a motherboard problem then.

Thanks for your help guys.
