Hi All
Long time reader on these forums but lost my original logon & password hence the new account..
I bought a complete bundle from OcUK just over 2 years ago. Machine has worked beautifully for last two years but over past few months seems to be causing me more & more problems. I play games but nothing too stressful Guild Wars etc.. my son plays a lot of CS:S & TF2. Trouble is machine has started rebooting itself and giving p a lot of BSoD and I can't work out the cause. Machine is as follows;
Product Name Price Qty Line Total
"Ultima OC Complete 9800GT" Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz @ QX6950+ 3.00GHz+ Quad Core DDR2 Complete System £879.00 1 £879.00
Chosen Option
Corsair XMS2 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 6400C4 TwinX Dual Channel (TWIN2X2048-6400C4G) £30.99 1 £30.99
Chosen Option
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66I-01939) £59.99 1 £59.99
City Link Parcel Next Day Afternoon (Delivered Mon-Fri): £26.05
VAT: £174.31
Order Total: £1170.34
Came with everything, 22" Samsung etc etc etc... 8800GT GPU..
Wow when I think what I could buy for that cash now...ah well it really has worked very well for me as I say until recently.
I have tried everything I know.. Updated Drivers for the Nvidia 8800GT (are there any other main drivers that could need updating? motherboard is Abit)
I have run AddAware & Spybot, have all updaes loaded have defragged and run full virus scans... machine seems clean as a whistle. I was having problems with a program that RBS online banking install on the machine called Rapport which causes known problems with Steam..(wife can use laptop to pay bills) so removed that. I am just stuck. I don't know whether it is a hardware issue or software. I have full Vista 64 disks so can do reinstall but as I have never don one before I am loath to start now.
There is constantly a Red light showing on the motherboard all the time which seems odd to me but I don't know whethr this is a new thing or whether it has always been there..
I have cleaned all dust carefully from machine and everyting looks rock solid..
Anyone any thoughts on where I should start my more serious attempt to fix this? The problem is the BSoD which come up randomly but a lot more often when son is playing on Steam. they do come up during normal browsing or watching .AVI's..
Any thoughs suggestions pointers would be much appreciated..
Thanks in advance
Mal
