PC problem

I have a pc problem - if anyone could help shed some light on to it, it would be much appreciated.

When the computer turns on - fans go, hdd starts up but no post. and no post code either - i've tried removing and putting the memory back in, i've tried using a single stick instead of 2, tried resetting cmos, taking out and replacing cmos battery.

havent tried - taking out gfx card and testing in another pc, taking out and putting in the cpu.

I have a black screen in all of these situations - although one time I only had one stick in and it booted fine. but this was one time out of 15 odd attempts and i havent been able to recreate the boot.

Also i have removed everything from the computer and tried booting with only the keyboard and screen - still no avail.

System config - dfi infinity 975x, c2d e6600, single 8800gtx, 2gb geil pc6400 ram - dual channel config, psu - fsp sparkle 750w, creative xfi xtreme music.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

the system is an old one built by parts from here a few years ago. I havent had any problems since until just recently. I shall begin attempting the suggestions listed to see if i have any luck with it.

Unfortunately i have no direct access to spare parts - am sourcing some from friends at the minute.

In terms of beep codes - received none at all, tried everything.

PSU - seems to be fine - but will run a few more checks as suggested on the site.

yeah tested it plac - no memory - no beeps; remove gfx i get a long screech that doesnt stop. speakers connected to on board sound the whole time whilst conducting tests not xfi.
