PC racing games

I also vote for both shift 2 and project cars. Shift 2 has the career mode but cars has the physics and graphics. Both support the 360 controller beautifully. In shift 2 you have to put up with bro-fest irritating narrator/mentor guy who gives unskippable tutorial videos with generic advice about taking it to the maxxx and push yourself to the exxxtreme yo, eugh. He only pops up at the beginning though.

GTLegends is a classic car racing alternative. Same engine and format as race 07. Have to manually configure the 360 controller but it works well enough.

Just be aware the GT Legends isn't very Windows 7 friendly. There are work arounds via Google, but it doesn't work out if the box.

Not sure if this is what you meant by work arounds but they've updated the digital version to support windows 7 properly. Link below explains if but they have a system in place where you send a photo of your cd key/case + note with your username on their system and they'll add the windows 7 version to your account. Worked perfectly for me and took about 1 day for them to respond:

It was an old retail boxed version I tried last year sometime. It was a bit if a faf to get it to work but it did in the end.

I Didn't know about the digital version.

In pCars is there a drifting aspect?

I recently made the jump from box to pc, drifting on Forza was my thing.

May have to grab the box back out for the release of Forza Horizon.

There is nothing like Forza or Gran Turismo on PC.

You've got games that are more arcade or more sim, but not the blend you get with Forza or Gran Turismo.

If you're in that unhappy medium (like I am...) I don't see any alternative other than Forza or Gran Turismo on a console.

Forza is more arcade then a sim, Shift 2 is just as good imo. If you are talking real sims, which Forza is not then the PC has lots that are awesome many of them mentioned above. Not sure if consoles actually have any sim racers.

With Forza Horizon on sale tomorrow (I think) I may have to unpack the box again!

Can anyone tell me if there is any aspect of drift in pCARS?

That's my point exactly. PC has some very good Sims, in fact it excels with them. However, they're too much for me to enjoy. Then you've got the other end of the spectrum, with games which are very arcade.

Forza and Gran Turismo are in the middle (and as "sim" as you get on consoles). They give you some fairly "realistic" driving physics (compared to arcade-style games) that have at least a little basis in reality, give you things to do like car upgrades, suspension tweaks etc, and are something you can either sit down with for hours, or for just minutes at a time.

It's for this reason I've been considering picking up a console again, since Gran Turismo 2, and the original Forza when I had my xbox, I've not really found any driving games I've enjoyed playing - I think GRID was the only driving game I've got into since, and even that was a little too arcade (but still enjoyable, rather than frustrating)

As others have already said, the best option on the Pc atm is Shift 2, but it has to be modded as it is a bit loose / floaty handling-wise by default.

Use the UCP Mod first & foremost.

If you still feel the handling isn't quite to your tastes then install either the PTMu Mod or the NTM Tire Mod

I actually have GRID on steam I think but never really gave it much of a chance, although I never had a wheel back then, it is to arcadey for a wheel or do you think it will be ok? I can't stand any driving games without a wheel :D

I couldn't get GRID anywhere near playable with a wheel. I've tried settings others have posted on various forums but for me it's a pad only game.
