Hey, since past few days my PC keeps randomly freezing for a second or two.

Any idea what's causing this, i downloaded SeaTools and both my HDD's tested fine for the basic tests.

open resource manager (open task manager go to perfomance tab and clikc resource manager)

leave the cpu tab open and use computer normally. when freeze happens maximize resource monitor and see if around the time of freezing the cpu spiked up to 90-100% if it did. next step if to find out whats causing the spike

Does everything freeze or can you still move the mouse etc?

Windows freezing happens a lot with disk controller drivers.

I can still move the mouse, just freezes and then goes back to normal, opened Task Manager and when it happens it doesn't spike, just stays at what it was.

Also I notice it most when watching something on VLC media player, freezes randomly but I also noticed that sometimes it stops doing it after 10 or so minutes and is fine for the rest of the film/program until I play something else.

CPU is running at about 28-30 idle and 40ish when playing a game, I've also noticed it's got progressively worse today, yesterday it only froze when watching films/programs, and now it's freezing in games/internet browser too.

So after reinstalling Window's it's still happening, I ran HD Tune Pro and seems my HDD is failing, so time to back up some stuff and use my other drive for Window's instead.

Anyone able to tell me if this is what is causing the problem?

Depends what those certain things were. as just a dump directory for music / video files etc should be fine. if you install applications onto it. those apps might brake.

I would personally find out if HDD has got any warranty left and get it replaced. if not get a new HDD as if you do use it to store anything. it won't be dependable at all. so don't store anything important on it.

I was using it as my boot drive as I use windows xp and my other drive is a Sata drive.

Can't install xp on my Sata drive and now I'm getting an error when trying to install saying no hard drive detected... So ATM I'm kinda screwed :s
