My computer has started to restart itself even when just on desktop with no load, it instantly shutsdown then starts up again but does not give any display output when it comes back on. i then have to restart it myself and it works fine.
This happens when overclocked and at stock.
The spec is phenom 2 x4 955 with 4gb ram andd xfire 6850, the psu is seasonic 750w.

first stop, memtest on a usb stick and check the ram. Also remove one of the video cards and run single card - I say this to mainly check psu as I have seen that with power supply issues in the past too.

right heres an update, i have run sfc and it found errors and repaired them, so far it hasnt happened since. i have run memtest and the ram is fine, the system also passess hours of torture tests both cpu and gpu which is why i was confused as to what was causing it. tankyou.

A computer randomly cutting out and displaying no error messages is sure to be a PSU issue. I don't think any other component would cause a complete cut out.

How old is the PSU?

Do you get the usual list of diagnostic options when you boot up again, "last known good configuration" etc etc

If it happens again you could try disabling the "automatic restart" in Start Up and Recovery as my friends was doing this and once we could see the BSOD we could see that it was caused by a Nvidia Driver.

Very good advice.

- Open the start menu and type in sysdm.cpl (launches Startup and Recovery window)

- Change to the Advanced tab and click on Startup and Recovery -> Settings

- Untick Automatically Restart and then click OK to save

Thanks for the advice, it turns out it was the new ati Crossfire profiles causing it.
