Hi all

My PC has suddenly decided to revert to a snapshot from years and years ago... Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Is there anything i can do to fix it?

Ive looked in system restore and it only seems to have options from the last few days. Ill admit i havent used the pc in a few weeks maybe..

strange...

Update: My steam games seem to be ok, the ones i downloaded recently are still there. They are on a separate drive to windows. Windows however needs to redo 107 important updates :(

I guess if an update fails (which they seem to far more often these days) it might revert back to the last snapshot it has. I've never had this myself although I don't have the restore feature turned on so there isn't anything for it to go back to.

Time to dig this thread back up! Been a while but ive been away!

I now know why it appeared that windows had "reverted" itself...

My SSD drive is no longer the primary boot device and so its defaulted to using the old drive that has the old install of windows before i upgarded to a crucial M4 SSD.

When i try to set the SSD as the 1st boot device i get a message saying i need to "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device"

- The BIOS sees the drive.
- Windows sees the drive and i appear to be able to copy files to/from it ok. As far as i can see it still has the windows installation still on there.

It just wont boot from it..

Any ideas guys? I dont think the SSD has died.. Surely motherboard related?

Motherboard is an old Asus P5E.

I havent tried installing things from scratch yet. I wanted to see if anything could be done to save what i have.

Thanks guys

Sounds like boot sector is borked. I'd first unplug the old drive completely to get it out of the equation, then stick the Windows DVD in, I believe it has an option to repair a faulty install.

Just tried to repair the windows install but when I go into the recovery menu there is no existing OS to choose from :(

Gonna just try format and install from fresh
