Hi guys,

I have 6 PCs in a room at the top of my house, no heating on in the room, but even with the small(ish) window wide open the room gets very hot.

So looking for recommendations on a pedestal or tower fan to move the air, would like a relatively quiet one(oxymoron I know). Can't bring myself to pay 399 sterling for a Dyson AM-08.

Air con is a no go. Thanx in advance....

The advice i would give is have two windows open, and just get a cheap 12" desk fan and put it blowing out of one window. If you want, get second fan and having it coming in on the other window. If you don't have two windows use cardboard or something to split a window and direct the fans in different directions.

Portable air con unit I use with the hose out thru a window or a vent in the wall works a treat in the summer plus when not on your PC,s you can use it elsewhere. I've used one for years, you want a proper one with refridgerant not one that just blows air over a tray of ice or water but they do work to a lesser degree. I guess built in air con is a no go but portable?

2 x large Cross Flow fans?

As Roverno suggested, one at the top taking air out, one at the bottom taking cool air in?
Crossflow should be pretty quiet and make efficient use of top/bottom of Window.

May need a perspex sheet cut with enough room for the fans themselves.

This is what I would do as well. The Challenge White Oscillating Desk Fan - 12 Inch from Argos is reasonably quiet on low setting and keeps you cool, better than the ones from Asda anyway which are louder.

I used to have a few PCs in one room many years ago, for a while i did what others had suggest, just a couple of 12" cheap fans in the windows, the ones on stands. Only bad thing is on a night in summer youll find it firing lots of bugs in that are drawn to the window light.

I eventually just put out the cash for a decent aircon unit, cant beat air con.

Im guessing he means so that you could buy a couple of big rads and hang them outside for summer and bring them in for winter. I think linus did something along them lines.

Whats the reason you didnt want aircon btw? just the extra electric cost or ya dont like the dry air or summat.

They are all watercooled..... but dont see the relevance

Haha yeah some people forget that 'water cooling' still just transfers all the heat to the air. Many also seem to think the component being cooler means that less heat was ever made thus the room heats up less (likewise the reverse: with a poor cooler or something if a component gets hot people think the room must be heated up loads, even though the problem is the lack of transferring the heat to the air in the first place!)
