one 4870x2 would be your best bet, unless you are thinking of changing your monitor in the next year or so

Its not pointless getting 2 cards, its just better to get one, it leaves you more room for future, spend your money on one really good card, either the 4870x2 or 295, forget the 280, its upto you whether you prefer Nvidia or ATI, then in a year or twos time, if needed you can then add another card. If you get 2x280 now, you'll have no where to go upgrade wise in future, as adding a 3rd would do very little

95thrifles is pretty much spot on esp for a 24" monitor.

no it runs great, I have one in game issue with CoH where now and then the in game menu text becomes corrupt and unreadable, got a query in with ATI at moment about it, but I know thats definately a card issue, I think its my vBIOS which matches the one that needs patching, but my serial and part numbers dont match the batch so thats why Im double checking with ATI first, that way if it bricks the cards its their fault 
But the monitor is great, only had it a few weeks, before that I had a pretty mid range 19" monitor, decided (rightly) that I needed a better one to do my system justice, and its sweet

Interesting, I was just wondering because I have an issue with waking the monitor up, the vid I posted demonstrates it exactly:

One thing you can barely see is on the CPU graph in the sidebar the cpu usage is/has been rapidly fluctuating between 0-100% usage, wierd?!?!
I tested with a different card [8800GT] and it woke fine so I was just trying to see if anyone else with the same GPU and monitor were having the same issues. I'm wondering if only certain HD4870s have this problem, I got the card on release so maybe I should try flashing with a different bios or something, not really sure with these kind of things?!?
