PC & small heater question

Hi all,

Just a quick question - I have bought a small oil heater for my computer room (De'Longhi Bambino Oil Filled Radiator 800 Watt.)

Is it safe to have the heater & my PC plugged into the same strip - I'm using a Belkin 8-socket surge-master.

Cheers

It should not be a problem, most PC,s draw about 700-800w as well so both together should be about 7 amps and adapters are normally rated at 13a

However personally i would plug it in somewhere else if I could as it switching on and off may interfere with the surge protector

Just overclock a bit more, then theres no need for the heater :D

the last thing I want to put in my computer room is a heater it is always the hottest room in the house by quite a margin. as Renton said, overclock some more, or just run folding at home or SETI 24/7 that will keep the temps up :D

Haha well my PC runs very cool so I've got no chance there, even oc'd. This little room is really freezing in the winter so I need the heater to stop my hands and feet from falling off!

I'm sure I'm just being paranoid but I can't afford to fry my PC

Well... only 2 single wall sockets in here so I suppose I could move the heater to the other socket - the only problem then being I would have to plug my wife's PC into the same strip that mine is plugged into. Would that be a better solution?

What the hell? Most PCs don't draw anywhere near that much, more like 200W.

My system probably draws a bit more than that but certainly not 800W! I only have 1 5850:P

Anyway, I'm thinking it's safer to have the oil-heater plugged in to my surge protector rather than the cheap a** power strip my wife's pc is currently using.

Only other option is to only run the heater direct from the wall when my wife isn't at her PC.. which isn't very often lol..

Probably calculated that figure with the old myth of "Your PC uses 100% power of your power supply all the time" :)

Mine uses 190W and 250W when overclocked, just the base unit.
