Sorry if this thread is not in the right place. Hear are my specs:

Antec p182 super midi tower case
BGF 8800GT graphics card
4GB OCZ 1066 Reaper HPC, DC RAM
Abit IN932X-Max motherboard
2.4GHz intel quad core pro Q6600 95W processor
Antec Quattro 850W PSU

I am getting two sound issues.

1) Firstly i get a high pitched whining sound, i suspect from the PSU, i used a roll to define where the sound is coming from and it seems to be inside the PSU and/or from the wires coming out from it. I dont have another PSU to try out. I have tried disconnecting some devices but i still get it. This has been long term, 6 months +

2) Secondly and only recently i get a another high pitched sound; some times it sounds like a dial up tone / squeeling sound. I tend to only get this when i use one of my hard drives; like degragmenting, disk checking, using postgres SQL, virus scans etc but the sound is NOT coming from the hard drives. Note though when i did disk check i got a strange sound high-picthed then low pichted sound continiously. Strangely when i turn on my speaker full blast i can hear the same or simular sound on them. I suspect the sound it is coming from around the GPU after i added the Akasa VGA cooler; i also added a Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB and cleaned / dusted the PC . I took the power out of the fan but still get the noise; it is the right side of it; as in just below the RAM

Thanks for the help

Hi Mate,

I too used to get a squealing sound, I found it came from my 260 GTX GPU, I got this when I failed to put Vysync on in games. That is my first suggestion.

Have you got a spare PSU? Try that and see if you get silence.

Its the VRM s on the motherboard, which may be a bit dodgy, only way to solve is to replace board or perhaps tinker with the wiring a bit.

Hope these suggestions assist.

Cheers

Von

Thanks for the reply but can i please get some more comments and help with these issues

I don't play games and i get the sound even when doing mediocre things like defraging etc; so do i really need to use this; and what is it Vysync btw?

So are these issues okay to leave? I mean do i HAVE to replace the PSU and/or GPU or MB; it is at risk of blowing my other components or anything or is it something i can simply to put up with?

Thanks again

Graphics properties, or basically you need to aline the refresh rate of you monitor (if you have an LCD), you should be able to change the refresh rate to 60? That might be causing the squeal if you have a GPU like the 8800 GTX making the noise.

Sounds like the motherboard VRMs to me.

Or it could be the LAN port (if in use), my old PC squealed when downloading on it due a flaky lan port.

Could be the processor whining when using CPU intesive tasks, you could reduce vCore or HT.

Do you have speedstep enabled, on my i7 system my UD5 makes a noise when this is enabled.
