PC, SSD and Windows 7 question?

Hi guys,

Ok I've built many a PC in my time, but the last was about 7 years ago as I've been (and will remain) Mac and OS X since. However, I do have a soft spot for Windows and I have had Windows via bootcamp on all my macs.

I've owned 2 iMacs , Mac Pro and a Mac mini in these 7 years, all of which had bootcamp Windows on and I lobbed a SSD in all of them at some point.

On the old macs, via windows 7 I would clock, something around 200mb/s on a Crucial M4 256 SSD for example which isn't great. But my new macs would clock in excess of 400mb/s presumably cos of SATA 3 and other bios stuff.

This leads me to my question, as I've had no control over the bios on macs I've just left the SSD as is, but I've just bought all the components for a pretty high spec gaming PC (turning up tomo from ocuk) but want to know if I have to do anything special in the bios to get the most from my SSD?

I'm putting one of my old Crucial M4 256gb SSDs in the new PC (Gigabyte Z77-D3H) would just plugging the SSD in to one of the SATA 6gb/s slots and installing windows 7 do? Or do I need to activate this AHCI thing (I have no idea what this means, but heard it as connections with SSD and bottlenecks)?

Any advice on what I should do when I build it tomo greatly appreciated!

Thanks
