Hi guys,

Having an issue booting up my PC this morning. As soon as I press the power button the fans/lights come on fans spin then literally half a second later it powers off. It was working fine yesterday - I'm at a bit off a loss here. Power supply maybe? Tried changing the plug/outlet - same thing.

My specs are:

Gigabyte z87x-ud5h
Gigabyte G1 980ti
i7 4770k
Corsair TX750M power supply
4x120mm fans

Any help would be appreciated! Dying to play Fallout :)

first thing i would do is check all power cables from the PSU and make sure they are secure.

if i looked at the right mobo you should have a on board graphics, take out your 980TI and see if it boots then.

if it still doesn't boot take out all the ram except one and again try to boot, if it fails try another stick to make sure the 1 you was using inst faulty.

OK thanks for the replies guys. So far I have:

* Reseated the RAM - including taking one of the sticks out, testing the other etc.
* Taken out the graphics card.
* Checked the cables from the psu - all seemed ok to me.

Still does exactly the same thing. Any other suggestions?
By the way, no strange smell or pop came from the PSU and the mobo still has the power light on when you plug it into the wall (the standby power light built into the mobo).

I'm guessing it could either be dead psu or a dead mobo.

try doing a clear CMOS, take out the battery on the mobo and leave it out for 30 mins then after this place it back in and try to boot the PC again. this should restore the bios back to default settings.

could try the papperclip test on the PSU, video here (never tried it myself)

Just tried clearing the cmos (mobo has a button that clears) and also tried booting to a different bios (switch on mobo for a backup bios). No change. Not sure if I fancy trying the paperclip technique!

I'm thinking I may order a PSU - a backup is never an ill store anyway. If that doesn't work, I'm guessing it must be the mobo.

I'm having the EXACT same trouble here, you can find my thread below. After ruling out PSU and RAM, I've bought a new mobo which is arriving tomorrow which will hopefully fix this, if not I'm looking at having to replace the board AND cpu, not fun. My board is also a Gigabyte(z77-D3H) if that helps. How old is your board out of interest?

Incredibly frustrating to happen completely out of the blue, and terrible timing in the release week of Fallout :( Best of luck getting back up and running.

Hi Tomithy,
The board is just over just over 2 years old, if it turns out to be that, I'll RMA it. Its always been a little shaky in the BIOS for some reason, but has been running fine for some time now. Sods law the game I was looking forward to most comes out and it plays up! Grrrrr!

I mean there's never a good time for these problems to come up, but for it to happen this week is tough to stomach. I too am itching to play it :(

Try and get your PSU tested in another machine as soon as you can. Even better, if you can find someone with the same motherboard, and CPU socket and get those tested(it's a long shot). I couldn't, sadly, so I'm still in the dark with my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Keep us updated :)
