I was running BOINC a few days back and when l woke up in the morning the PC was off and it refused to boot up. Resetting the bios had no effect. My
Q6600 is overclocked to 3.2Ghz at stock volts.

The point is that l don't know which component is dead now. Either the PSU, motherboard on CPU is dead but with no spare PC lying around l can't test what should replace.

My PSU is a 4 year old Tagan 425W. I have tried hooking the PSU on a case fan to see if the 12v is working but nothing. I would bet that the PSU is dead but l would like a second opinion on that before shelling out on a new PSU.

It could be the PSU is dead & if the PSU packed up there is a small chance it could have taken other parts with it.

Do you have a mate who would let you borrow there PSU so you could test that?

I am hoping that the other components are ok since Tagan is considered a good brand and the PSU, from what l remember had all those safety features that would prevent my other components from kicking the bucket.

Well if the motherboard and CPU are dead then l would be "forced" to an i7 built or maybe a Phenom II built.

I would also start with the PSU being the main culprit. As above you got any mates that you let you uses theirs etc?
