Pc Stratagy game Recommendations

I have had the most time with StarCraft 2, Stellaris, Total Warhammer 2/3, Frostpunk. Faster than Light

If you haven't played anything on pc this millennium then Company of Heroes, Dawn of War and Age of Mythology Rome Total War are older games that I really enjoyed.

In addition to all of the above, I'd recommend any of the strategy games by Triumph Studios ie. Age of Wonders series including Planetfall. Age of Wonders 4 is out on May 2nd and is looking like a really good iteration on the series if you like a fantasy setting. In contrast Planetfall has a sci-fi leaning.

Just remembered another game that I have sunk way too many hours in during covid called Into The Breach. A very simple game to get into, but hard to master. Its like chess as it requires some forward planning, but is very fun. Also very easy to pickup and play, and rounds are relatively short.

Will run on anything as its 2D, but don't let that put you off!

AOW4 is my current most wanted game. Hope reviews are positive!

Evil Genius (the first one NOT the second). 20 years old, but still good. Pro tip: edit the ini files for additional minions.

Civ 4. I prefer it to 5 and 6, especially as 6 takes aaaaages to end turns in late game.

Positive first reviews by and large, barring a few bugs here and there.

PCGamesN - This is undoubtedly the best 4X game I’ve played in years, delivering top-notch exploration, combat, and diplomacy alongside a rewarding and dynamic customisation system.

Eurogamer - Age of Wonders 4 makes room for curiosity-driven play, bringing new meaning to the "exploration" part of 4X. It's striking how it balances depth and customisability without being dense or overwhelming, letting "what if?" be as valuable a question as "what next?" I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a smooth resolution to the performance issues I experienced before diving back in, but I'm still looking forward to one more turn.

Game Watcher - Age of Wonders 4 reshuffles some elements of the traditional 4X strategy formula in rather significant ways, making for an entry that puts choice and customization at the forefront. It does so excellently, offering plenty of spells and culture combinations that let you roleplay a variety of archetypal or contradictory factions while seeking the most overpowered spell and unit mix.

Shack News - Age of Wonders 4 might be overwhelming at first, but it's brimming with potential and gives you the tools to tell unique stories with your chosen hero. The nearly decade-long gap between releases gave Triumph the chance to polish Age of Wonders 3's weak points and come up with substantial improvements to combat and presentation. The result is one of the best grand strategy games in ages.

PC Gamer - A flavourful and inventive 4X full of incredible spells and engaging empire management.
