Pc stuck in boot loop before BIOS

no you'll be alright

did you test the other ram slots one at a time with one ram stick?

its either psu or mb fault, also tested without hdd connected

EDIT:it could also be a corrupted main bios, how long did you let it loop? can try pressing the power on button on the front of your case, then soon as you hear the pasu/cpu fans spin switch off at the rear psu switch

do that two or three times then let it powerup normally, you'll see a msg saying main bios corrupted recovering from backup bios

Yep, tried all possible RAM combinations and tried to boot without HDD's connected, and tried them all individually.

So yeah, hopefully I can get hold of a freinds psu tomorrow, failing that I'll take it to the local PC repair place on Monday.

If anyone else has any other other tests I can do, please say :)

Just an update, had a guy on the case today switching out parts for me. The power supply is not the problem. He tried everything except the motherboard and CPU, so that narrows it down. Absolutely gutted.

My copy of windows 7 is OEM, so if I have to get a new motherboard, will I need to purchase another copy of Windows?

Because your OS is OEM it can only be activated on one system as it ties to the motherboard.

I have the same Cpu+mobo. Exact same problem narrowed it down to cpu / mobo but no spares to test. Another alternative would be to get a power on self test card see if that gives you anything if not, spare z77 mobo and cpu

Really? When did your troubles start and how old is your system?

Wazza, will give that a go when I get the machine back shortly.

So(if it's a new motherboard I need) is my current windows installation safe? I read that I can just call windows and they'll give me a new key, as it's still the same machine, just replacing a part.

Hoping to get a clearer picture of what's going on tomorrow.

If it comes down to needing to buying a new motherboard, could anyone recommend me a new one similar to the one I have? My current one doesn't seem to be available anymore. Preferably something i can get delivered on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Thanks in advance...

It's going to be really hard to source an 1155 board nowadays. You won't find a new one and will have to go 2nd hand.

Or sell the CPU and upgrade to haswell/devil's canyon. Or sell the CPU and RAM and go to skylake.

I assume the board is no longer in warranty?

Sounds like a real pain in the ****

I'm still tempted to say from all your notes that it's PSu but it's impossible to be sure.

Maybe if it's a real rush job, go to a local pc shop, ask nicely if you can buy a psu to test with with the option of return if it's not that?

Bit of a stretch I know ... but... if your stuck...

My PSU was found to be working as normal when tried in another setup though :/

My system is currently at the local repair place, fingers crossed they can find a solution.

Are you using xmp or overclocking at all?

My gigabyte motherboard was having a hissy, found out it doesn't support my rams xmp.

Try downloading the newest bios, put it on the memory stick and q-flash it.

Ok, serious help needed now!

I've had a guy looking at my machine, and he's all but certain the problem is with the motherboard. What he's not certain on is if the CPU is dead as well. Surely this is a long shot that they have both died together?

So the dilemma... Do I buy a new motherboard and hope that my CPU is still okay? Or do I upgrade both now?

Try find a decent priced bundle with both CPU and Mobo.

Unless you can somehow test the CPU in another mobo.

Maybe it's a good time to start a gradual upgrade? Just check that your other components are going to be compatible.
