I've been given a pc to have a look at as it's not sorking.

It's only an old emachines one.

I can't get it to show anything on the screen - any ideas?

...spec?
make sure its properly connected, also the cables arent damaged.
tbh i cant say much because u havnt given me enough info. try different monitors?

all connectors are fine
Monitor works - as it's been used on another machine.
I can't even get it to post.

All i've connected to the mother board is -
Monitor
PSU
Ram
:(

Is there a speaker on the board? Try turning it on with no RAM, might give you post beeps then.

Or POST error beeps to be precise.

Make it bare minimum then.....Take the board out the case, reseat the CPU, put one stick of RAM in, connect up just the motherboard tot he power supply and connect the monitor.

Then try turning on with the RAM in each slot as you go along...Presumably you can't try the RAM or CPU anywhere else?

i've been told it used to have a graphics card that now has been removed - would something need resetting for it to run off the boards graphics?

Possibly yes...May need to reset the CMOS if they have disabled the onboard graphics in the BIOS.

Normally done by a jumper on the motherboard, or by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes (2 or so...Just make a cup of tea basically :p)..Then put it back in.

just let it sit there for a few minutes, no point turning it on :)

Only time you do that is if you move the clear cmos jumper....which might be worth doing if this does not work.

How long did you leave it out for?

So you've done the jumper technique too? By how the manufacturer tells you to.

Well the first thing that pops into my head is "eMachine". Thats the first problem. Has it got onboard graphics aswell a a dedicated card, try that. Do you get any beeps?

Left it out for over 3mins
and the jumper too.

it did have a graphics card - but thats been removed.
I presume it has onboard graphics as there is a monitor port.

What does the manufacturer say about the CMOS jumper?

Normally you either remove it, or move it across on the pins, then turn it on for a bit.

Do you have a model number for the motherboard?

did u re seat the CPU, it hppnd wid me once, nothing wz showing on monitor,i removed evrything but nothing, thn i re seat the cpu,and it solved
