Just looking for some opinions, Mothers PC is playing up. Claimed she had it running went away to do something and when she came back it had turned off, the PC will power up but it won't display anything. Below is a list of what I've tried in no particular order:

Tested the GPU in another machine - works fine
Tested the monitor on another machine - works fine
Swapped monitor cables - no difference
Unplugged the HDD - No difference
Removed the RAM/Swapped it around - No difference
Removed Motherboard battery and mains cable for 30 seconds - no difference

My theory is the motherboard and or CPU are dead, it's my old i7 920 with an Asus P6T (not overclocked). Part of me is suspecting the recent storms may have contributed to it seeing as there's no surge protection on it. The only other thing I can think to try is another PSU but there's no sign the current one is at fault as it all powers up.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I've had a psu blow due to a power cut, tested psu on another pc? Also try a longer cmos clear,30 minutes

Okay so did as mentioned, couldn't for the life of me get it to work. Decided to plunge and get a new cpu/mobo and it still does exactly the same thing, I'm at a complete loss. Everything has been interchanged, the second PSU from a working PC did exactly the same thing. If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated!

If there is no display - can or have you tried another graphics card, or has the replacement board already got onboard graphics? Try an absolute bare bones build i.e

Try mobo out of the case with only 1 stick of ram, cpu and graphics card.Try to use only known working parts and see if you get any output on the screen, and if so see if you can get in too the bios. If successful try adding the other parts back one by one until it fails or not.Hopefully once all working you can re build in too the case. If it is all working, but when you put it back in too the case it doesn't you may have a short happening somewhere in the case - case flex etc, but we will cross that bridge if we get there.

Let me know how you get on.

I've tried the onboard and it does the same, I put the GPU in another PC and it worked fine so I've ruled that out.

I've unplugged everything but the bare essentials, and still the same, tried the other monitor that works on another pc no luck. The only common denominator is the case, I'll try taking it out of the case and see if it works but it feels like clutching at straws heh

Just tried the new stuff on its own, CPU, Mobo, Ram placed ontop of the Mobo box plugged into the PSU and monitor via VGA and still the same issue, power but no output. Will try a different PSU tomorrow but I can't see it making a difference as it was the same when I tried another PSU with it in the case.
