Hey all

My PC is fairly new, and I only have a 350W PSU in it, and I'm assuming this is the problem, just wanted a confirmation before I actually buy a new PSU, would you guys agree?

Cheers :)

No one will be able to tell you about PSU needed if you don't list your components. Give a list of what you have in machine in detail if possible.

To check temps you can use:
realtemp (for cpu) - http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
gpu-z (for gpu) - http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

Might be worth seeing what temps and stability are like running a program called prime95.

Also worth doing a memtest using bootable cd - http://www.memtest86.com/
You'll need a program like powerISO (free) to create a bootable CD but it's very easy, just burn the iso to disc and restart PC and boot from CD :)

Oops sorry, forgot to include specs...

Windows Vista 64x
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
4GB RAM
GeForce 8800GT
Creative SB X-Fi
It's a 350W~ PSU

And going to run those programs now :)

Even if its a quality 350w psu you might be running a bit close to the limit under load.

What make psu is it?

I'd certainly point the finger at the PSU. A rough comparison of your system using an online calculator suggests 250W, but what Amperage does your PSU provide on the 12V rail, not enough I suspect.

In fact, it is a 250w PSU, the make is FSP Group Inc, which was the stock PSU, so probably is the problem?

Most likely. A generic PSU running close to it's limit will alway cause problems. Get yourself a quality 400-450w, that'll give you a bit of headroom and future expansion capacity.

Could you recommend one? I have a 700w in my old PC, but won't fit in my new case :(

Okay got it, so what am I looking for? Had a quick browse and couldn't really work out much...

Not too experienced in this but any problems I think are likely to be in errors tab (you may have odd service error etc that you can ignore). See if anything logged around the time that the PC shut itself off, that's likely to be relevant.

What case is it? Does it need an mATX PSU? Good one's are hard to come by... i'd probably get a different case anyway, small one's are bad for airflow. What are your temps getting to anyway?

Didn't seem to exceed 50 on Core 1,2,3,4 ... but I'm gonna run actual games and test it instead of stress tests soon.

It's a Packard Bell iXtreme X6618 UK unfortunately, so not too sure whether the motherboard will fit another case...

So this is the case:

I just changed the GFX Card and added a Sound Card, so I'm pretty sure it'd be the PSU as the GFX is better (and more powerful) and with the added stress of a sound card can't help.

Doesn't Packard Bell use a custom ATX connector on their boards to stop you using a standard PSU or something silly like that??

Sorry for a being dumb, which one is the ATX connector?

And I just realised what the problem may also be... My PC just died simply from browsing the interweb... and I've recently had another PC plugged into the same extension cable as this PC, so too much strain on that could be the problem, as this PSU is less powerful than the other and could be hogging all the power? Just an idea though...

The PB is likely not only to have a propriatory connector for the motherboard, but also a non standard size psu. You might find it very difficult to find a suitable PSU.

I don't think it's the PSU after all!

Was just testing with TF2, and my GPU was reaching 96C!

Something is wrong there! Gonna need a new case, but as I said, I don't think the motherboard will fit other cases?
