Hey guys, Im a little worried, I got a new PSU and a new Cpu cooler yesterday and since installing them, my pc would turn back on straight after being shut down.

Yes Wake on Lan is disabled aswell as all the other ones.
Yes the mouse, keyboard, USB is disabled from waking up the PC.
Sorted out the power management settings correctly (i hope).

Problem still persists, what should I do? Could a wire be loose somewhere?

Could be the case power switch shorting. *edit* Im talking nonsense as you have to have the ATX power connector removed to jump start the PSU. Doh!

You can follow the cable for the switch back to the system board and simply short the pins that relate to the power switch using the tip of a screwdriver which has the same effect as pushing in the power switch. Then boot the system and shut down again to see if it starts up on it's own accord.

So basically you are disconnecting the power switch altogether to test. Sorry this is what I meant to say in my original post. Must be time for more Coffee. lol!

Sounds a bit complicated, I don't wanna damage anything, Maybe I can just check to see if the Power switch wiring has been damaged or moved out of place

If you can install a PSU and CPU cooler, then you can do this :) Im probably not explaining very well so apologies. I would seek to rule out a dodgy power switch for this issue however.

Usually with a PSU fault the system won't start up properly or just shut down for no reason. With this issue the PSU is being told to start up again after shutting down so that's why I would seek to rule out the actual case switch. It's a strange problem but I guess it could still be a problem with the new PSU.

I had this problem on someones PC last year. It turned out to be a faulty modem card in a PCI slot. Removed the modem & everything was OK. Put the modem back and fault returned. Is there anything in your PCI slots ?

Okay, Iv upgraded to a new and better PSU, the problem still persists.. which leaves me with either the wiring.. or the case?

Im runnin out of ideas, but I really dont wanna mess with the power switch

Strangely enough, my wife's pc started to do this last year.

Turns out that there was a corrupt file in XP that was restarting the PC once it had gone through the motions of shutting down. I only found this out after doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and its never happened since.

this could be a system file corrupted, or MBR.

try pressing and holding the OFF switch to power down PC, hold button for at least 16 seconds.

or you could clear cmos just to be on the safe side and set up your bios again.

if you have your CD for the operating system then try a repair

Ok guys, I basically went with the process of elimination, the only thing that could be causing this problem is the case in one way or another.
I should mention that when installing my motherboard, I left one hole unscrewed, which means there is one hole/part of the motherboard that isnt grounded by the standoffs, could this be causing the problem?

I would doubt that the problem is being caused by the case - but just to eliminate it from the possibilities, you should try running the mobo out of the case to see if it still happens.

I would say that this problem is most likely to be software based - a corrupted windows or perhaps a badly written tsr(terminate and stay reident process) which is causing the restarts.

I do not think the one missing standoff will make any difference, but testing outside of the case will also tell you something about that possibility. Lastly their is the possibility of badly written drivers which are not closing down at shutdown - have you installed anything that you can remember just before the machine started doing this.

Have you tightened the cpu cooler too much perhaps - I have seen this cause thes type of issues as well.

It cant be software based because-
After I shut it down, I have 5 seconds to turn the PSU off from the back.
After doing this, the computer comes back on for a split second then stays off because there is no power feeding it.
Wouldnt that mean the electricity isnt being grounded on part of the motherboard?
