Hi all,

My PC turns off when running software such as 3D Mark 11 and Hitfilm. I can hear the GPU fan speed up and become quite loud. is there any way to fix it without having to return it as it's a month old? Specs are in sig.

Going by your specs in your sig i'd say unless the PSU is faulty that the GPU is overheating. Assuming the same thing happens when these programs are run in windowed mode, try running something along side to monitor power and temps (i can't remember the name of the one that logs to a file in the background) :)

GPU-Z or OCCT?

+1 regarding PSU issues.

I had a similar experience whilst playing games, in my case it was Zooming down my sights in BF:BC2, caused a hard lockup every time.

Changed my PSU over to a better one (Corsair TX850), and all my troubles went away.

GPU-Z or OCCT?

Been a long time since i've used applications such as OCCT, the last one i remember doing background monitoring of temps etc in was ATItool but i don't even know if that exists any more :p So your guess is as good as mine.

EDIT: Also GodAtum worth checking the sig rules, i think you're only allowed 4 lines of text. :)

I had this a few weeks ago.

Turned out my PSU was dying.

Try running the GPU off of one PSU and the rest of the system off of another. Worked for me until I got a new PSU. You'll have to hotwire the PSU connected to the GPU and turn it on first, but apart from that, it'd be ok. (This hoping you have a spare PSU lying around xD)

Mine occurred when GPU Fan ramped down or up intermittently as a side point.

Running an OCCT test, GPU-Z records max temp as 119C with the fan speed at 100%.

119C!
I am sure i read that there is a throttle back & shut down function for ATI gpus if the go over 105C or some ting like that?
It may well be your GPU overheating and shutting down!

I'd say your GPU heatsink isn't working or not seated well. What are your CPU temps and what are your your idle temps for both.

Andi.

BTW I'd check your sig against the rules FAQ.

In that case GPU heatsink isn't seated properly, easily fixed yourself albeit at the expensive of your warranty (unless you do a really good job of it so they don't notice ;))
