PC Upgrade Help

Hi all,

First post with OC and need some help, please. I am looking to upgrade my current PC to get better performance with the new MW and future games. Ideally, I want to upgrade my existing setup as buying a new system is unaffordable.

My setup currently is;

MOBO - GA-H61M-USB3-B3
PSU - Corsair Cx500
CPU - I7 2600 @ 3.4GHz
SSD - 250gb - Unsure what brand
HD - 1TB
GPU - GTX 1050ti

unfortunately this setup cannot be overclocked...and basically just meets the requirements for minimum specs for MW

this entry level gpu is a bit dated and also only just meets the minimum requirements

all-in-all, this system's core isn't really upgradeable...you'd want to get a whole new system when you next want to change it

So I was looking to just upgrade bit by bit to make a new system if that makes sense? Would it be best going for a new MOBO and CPU first and then the GPU?

I would be buying parts as and when I can afford it so I guess I would be buying a new system just didn't know where to begin with
 
@BeeRad I guess one would consider your parts list as "low end" by now and it depends on your budget as to which parts would/should be upgraded first.
 
@tamzzy Well now you’ve put it like that I suppose I would want to upgrade the part that will have the biggest impact. I’m not too sure where to begin if I’m honest with you
 
The only upgrade you could really make on that system that would really see improvements would be the GPU, that 2600K still has some room to breath and something along the lines of an RX580 or 1660S would see an improvement, although how much of an improvement will depend on the game and settings you're using.

I would personally only invest in a GPU for your machine with the intent to upgrade the rest of the system down the line.
 
I'm not entirely sure I buy that.

I'm running a 3770K and even at stock it isn't bottlenecking my RX580 in the games I'm currently playing, being Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds. The 1050ti is a pretty weak card by comparison, so I certainly think a mid range GPU upgrade wouldn't be entirely wasted until he can afford to upgrade the rest.

Heavy multiplayer may be different.

I ideally want to go for a i7-8700k or i5 processor, not sure what mobo to pair with it though as my knowledge isn’t as great when it comes to them.

Then maybe a GTX 1660ti?

Would it make sense to buy this as and when or just save up for a whole package PC? Can’t work out what is cost efficient
 
You're better off going for an AMD Ryzen 3600.

The 1660TI isn't worth it, get the 1660 Super instead, it's £50 cheaper and performs within a few fps of the 1660ti.

Here's an example of a 3600/RAM/Mobo combo that's fairly well priced. Factor in £160-200 ontop of that for a GPU upgrade, so one of the following:

I honestly think you'd be fine for at least a short time with a GPU upgrade, but I absolutely wouldn't go for anything higher end than the two I've listed though.

What about the Ryzen 7 2700/X?

Thank you for your help, it’s hard choosing when there’s endless options haha
 
There's not much point in going for the 2700X over the 3600, if you really want to save some cash you could consider dropping down to the 2600, which can be had for around £100 if you shop around.

In terms of PSU will the one I have now still do the job ?

The i7 and i5s are rubbish, stay away and get a 3600 instead.

The 1660ti is decent in the low/mid range but the 5700 (non CT) can be had for not much more and is significantly quicker so thats where i would be going at that price.

Just a stock one that's been keeping me going, what would you recommend?

Currently, I'm going to go for;

GTX 1660 Super
Team group vulcan ram
MSI B450
Ryzen 5 3600
Corsair Carbide 275R Case

I want to go mid-range price-wise

Looking at what I need will be probably be around £600-£700? I will probably buy the expensive parts all together and the less expensive separately. I will be buying over the next couple of months and will be doing it all myself
