Current build is in my sig. I game, but nothing serious. Generally strategy and some FPS games. No work use/AI/crypto etc.

I am thinking about upgrading the CPU (9800X3D) and GPU (5080 - the 5090 seems overkill). I also need a new case for better airflow and more room.

Outside of those, will I need up upgrade anything else to make use of the new CPU and GPU? Time for a new mobo? Will the PSU be ok for the upgrade?

Thanks for the suggestion. As with most things, I do not need to upgrade, but we spend (waste?) money on our hobbies - I am at least managing to talk myself down from the 5090 this generation...

On the basis that I would like to upgrade, are there tweaks to be made?

So games like the Total War series, Civ, Stronghold, Football Manager, COD (for my sins), Borderlands and Company of Heroes.

Happy to upgrade the mobo and ram as have had the mobo a fair while.

If I went with the 9800X3D and 5080, would the following work:

  • 5080
  • 9800X3D
  • Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming mobo
  • Corsair Vengeance EXPO 32GB DDR5 PC5-48000C36 6000Mhz dual channel kit
  • Keep the Corsair Rm1000x 80 Plus
  • Bigger case (not sure which yet)

I have had a look around and come up with the following:

Your Order

1 X MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WIFI (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard - £280.00
SKU
: MOT-MSI-03298

1 X Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 PC5-52800C32 6600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £233.98
SKU
: MEM-CRS-01224

1 X AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core 5.20GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £530.00
SKU
: PRO-AMD-03517

1 X Antec Flux PRO Full Tower Case - Black - £169.99
SKU
: CAS-ATC-03468

Grand Total: £1,225.96

My concerns are whether the case is big enough for the mobo and if the RAM is the best 64GB kit for the build?

My current build gets too hot for my liking (pushes 90 under load).

Hopefully a bigger case will help with airflow and get that down a bit.

I definitely don't want a full WC build. I don't know enough and as you say, too risky. Are AiO too risky?
